this is one of my favorites - just for the Kris Kistoferson sing song at the end.

That one is amazing for the health and safety for dealing with liquid metal being regular clothes and a ciggarette.

hang on a minute, Hands is on YT??

I remember seeing the DVD boxset for sale at one of those RDS music trade shows for like €168, in 2008. I assumed someone had bought the rights to it and jealously guarded them.

This is life-changing information.

and the kids playing around the furnace.
real men back then
everything about it reminds me of my childhood for some (perhaps obvious) reason

I went to a foundry in Bailieborough in the 80s sometime. Molten metal just sloshing about the place, people pouring things, piles of smoking black stuff everywhere, definite buzz of Mordor going on.

I was really young, but I remember thinking: This is almost certainly the most dangerous place I've ever seen. I can't believe no one is stopping me wandering about here. Class.

One of those kinds of places where health and safety regulations are not interested in starting a conversation.

was just reading that shaw smith revisited the foundry in 2013, so it was still going then;

Twenty three years on, John’s sons Seamus, David and Kevin have graduated from the manufacture of manhole covers and fire grates, working on restoration of historical architecture, reinventing themselves in the face of cheap mass imports from China.

They now specialise in architectural metal restoration, forging decorative features from moulds of the originals, using the skilled and ancient technique of sand casting. We follow the brothers as they restore an ornate bench originally designed by the renowned 20th century iron-founder and engineer Richard Turner who designed the famous glass houses at the Botanic Gardens in Dublin.

i hate this bit.

With the air pressure I feel like my head is in a vice and my joints are going to burst open. Only just enough strength to tell Thumped about it.

BREAK MOTHER FUCKER.

BREAK MOTHER FUCKER.

Same as. Nerve face ting has been on full standby mode for two days. Studiously avoiding the meatspace at this point.

Apparently it was hotter in Ireland than in London today. Hope you're all ok.

I had mad sweats and dry wretching and a bit of the shakes today.
Other than that it wasn't a particlarly stressful day. So in a way it's good to know that what I thought were anxiety based panics were actually just me struggling with heat or a bug or something. That is massive, I really did think I was having a nervous breakdown on stressy hot days.

yeah - I never saw or heard of the 1988 Hands documentary about the Power's New Ross metal works at the time.
years later I was told by one of the people involved about it and there was a follow up about to be broadcast.
turns out I knew a few people in it.
the follow up is worth watching too they do very specialised high end work and are still going strong last I heard.

I walked about 8 or 9 miles yesterday and I did a 7 mile walk today which was OK.
Lying on bed now listening to music and looking at my computer and I am still sweating nearly as much as walking.

Doing some manual work on a site today. I feel like JCBs are somehow louder in this heat or maybe the litres of sweat is drowning my eardrums

I was curious - Mean we could be talking about 10 degrees in a winter shift, and 30 today, so the sound is hitting you faster by up to 12m/s

(Thats 43kmh faster)
