General election 2020 (6 Viewers)

Call it now folks.

For all the shitty problems the country faces I feel that FG will have enough "they did well on Brexit" sentiment to be returned as the largest party. Thought I can't see FF propping them up again.

SF have a few big names retiring, will be interesting to see if how much of their support was a personal vote and how much was for the party. Still feel there's a cohort of floating voters who feel that their main options are SF and FF.

Greens might pick up a couple of seats; climate being an understandable area of most concern for genzies coming of age who might be too young to be pissed off at them over what happened last time they were in government.

So, probably some sort of wacky coalition again.

Right
I wonder if FG will try and sell the two referendums as their own – in fairness to FG, it would be a little harder to see SSM and abortion going through under a FF coalition.
Also in fairness, fair play on a Saturday election date.

How do we view the Green Party in 2020? Are they just Fine Fianna with a carbon tax and wooly jumpers or should we take seriously the younger, sounder members now appearing?

There's that, and I haven't considered voted for them as a result of that for 10+ years, but I'm in a forgiving mood right now.

New wave greens have got my ear, older greens less so.

I kinda take the 'collaborators' line as people saying what FF want them to say tbh.

Kinda have more interest in new purple labour than old labour.

For the sake of sanity i tend to vote for the useful member of sinn fein because he's useful.

I want to see a wider rainbow coalition on this one because two terms of coalition is wayyy more representative than anything we've had since the formation of the grubby little statlet.

I've been Dublin West for a long, long time and will be here for at least this election, i've always voted for Joe Higgins and after him Ruth Coppinger, it's been pretty easy over the years to vote for the Socialists who actually get in, a painless vote really. Doesn't stop all the cunts voting for Leo but what can you do?

I'm just vaguely considering Roderic O'Gorman this time as the new Green's seem pretty organized and less likely to do 2008 all over again.

I'm in 'no to everything' east so essentially its pearse doherty and a slightly stale bag of potatoes with large salaries.

Is there any chance he might not return.

He's useless to the point of it being some kind of amazing performance art.

Like even Enda K was able to cycle to work once in a while.
He'll be fine, I think. Very active on the ground with the parish politics in this constituency, getting huge grants for the likes of Wesley college, etc. And largely, I think it's hard to unseat a Minister, whoever they may be, there's just a degree of brand recognition when people hit the booths.

Also, do we give any countenance to the European and local elections, when Sinn Fein got demolished, and we saw the start of this green wave?

The Lib Dems were destroyed in their GE, which was so starkly different to the Euro and local results last year...

There was a very low turn out for the UK's European elections though I think even less than half that voted in their general election.

On Fine Gaels' twitter all the anti abortion/immigrant/same sex marriage etc. people are as angry with FG as the lefties are, maybe more so. It'll be an interesting one.
