General Election 2016 (3 Viewers)

All looking a bit close for the 3rd spot in dublin central. Outside bet of Garry Gannon, in a dog fight with 5 others. Diana O'Dwyer not so much.

We're looking at FF/FG/Labour or Independents right?

Martin seemed adamant that he wouldn't go in with FG. Could be looking at a rainbow coalition or rerunning the whole thing in a month or so.

Lots of talk about "the end of civil war politics". I don't know. We are a particularly clannish electorate. Geraldine Kennedy just mentioned this might be a one off aberration . Watching Lowry's triumphant reception just makes me realise that there is such a long way to go.

I am now represented by a gay man, two women and a 25 year old pro-lifer who lives at home with his mammy and daddy. Aka the worst sitcom pitch ever.

While Louth has already a macabre sitcom clash In the Munsters meets the Adams family

As bad as Creighton/renua have done, they got over the 2% for state funding

An interesting take on the results.

As the results from the count come in, it's clear this is a historic change in Irish politics.

Senior figures in both government parties will lose their seats, in some cases ones they have held since the 1980s.

Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil are claiming victory but these are the second worst results in history for both parties. After dominating Irish politics for 90 years they are struggling to make 50% between them.

Despite fear-mongering about jeopardising the recovery, people have voted in massive numbers against the political establishment.

Left-wing parties and candidates will do decently - but really the people are rejecting the status quo, not coming to us.

What this moment calls for is us to go to them. On the centenary of 1916 Irish people have refused to give their consent to the continuation of this failed state, its politics, its parties and its priorities.

The ground has been laid for the closing of a political chapter.

We should meet this moment by building a process that engages as many people as possible who have rejected the establishment in a movement for a new Republic, a progressive refoundation of Irish politics.

Meetings in every part of the country to discuss a new social contract between people in Ireland and their representatives, to place minimum demands for progressive reform, to build unity against attacks on the public good, to debate a new framework for real democracy in Ireland.

This is a moment of huge significance. We missed some opportunities in this election, not for want of trying but we did.

I think now is the time for ambition and a project to develop this opening into an expression of people power that can transform society.

remember this? still hard to listen to. adios renua, surely
