until the mid 90's it was very expensive to travel by air.

Different problem though? Dublin the is the airport itself at issue not the individual airlines and their checkins.
Airport police and security are two different entities.

yeah, this. People couldn't even get into the terminal. Once in they then had to join a different queue depending on whether they were checking in luggage or not, or whether they had to do an in-person checkin or not.
I've booked a seat for it so should be ok. I'd be much more wary of checking it in.

its a confluence of a bunch of things
- bad management
- firing loads of staff during the pandemic
- trying to rehire staff on shit terms
- inexperienced staff at security gates leading to slow bag checks
- volume of people travelling
- bad management

i think they have an electric car too, the range rover (it's an old one i think) is there for the workshorse stuff like pulling a horsebox.
how environmentally friendly are horses anyway? they don't belch methane IIRC.
