General election 2020 (3 Viewers)

i kinda know this person. It is so disappointing. the guy has a temper but i'd only ever seen it in the political sphere and i didn't know it had a physical side. Loads of comments saying everyone knew he had a violent temper. I didn't and i went to college with him for a year, i hadn't heard of loads of stuff. anyways literally yesterday I'd have said that he'd be worth a 4/5 on the ballot and here were are, me being wrong.
i really don't think he was cut out for a life in politics.

Yeah eh I think Labour get loads of stick about that because their party leader at the time, who was Tanaiste and is an absolute horrible cunt, spent her entire tenure defending every single austerity measure they put in to the hilt. And guess what, she's still in the fucking party, and is one of the most absolute weapon cunts in Irish politics.

why are SF far more popular than the Trotskyist parties ?
Massive party name recognition
Peace process participation - track record in govt
State-wide party organisation and strong electoral machine
Larger candidate base, more recognisable candidates (councilors etc)
Mary Lou factor

Plus they haven't ever being a ruling party in government so have a clean slate from that perspective unlike FF and FG. I think also they are generally been seen as an alternative to a dominanting two party system also.

Not close to a full tally in Kildare north but Murphy SD and Cronin SF have had strong showings
I'm really hoping that SDs have enough name recognition to capture SF transfers

basically none of these things impress me.
SF have been in power in NI.
they continue to lie about their involvement in the NI civil war.

SF bullied their North Tipperary councillor Seamus Morris (Nenagh postman)
out of the party. Morris' transfers got Seamus Healy elected to the Dail last time.
prior to Morris SF had no profile here.

McDonald being the only woman leader is a big plus for SF but other than that
the best i could say is anyone would look good compared to Varadkar, Martin,
Howlin or Ryan who are all liabilities (especially latter trio).

and the nationalism nonsense is toxic for me.

Joe Higgins was the first Irish TD i ever had time for.
i think people are very apathetic and should should demand a lot more.
if it was up to me i'd have an anarchist leaning society.
but the hard left are still a far better option than SF.

i voted yesterday in order of who i thought the least bad to the worst
regardless of popularity. all 13 of 'em.
Lowry got #13, Mattie McGrath #12 etc.

anyway don't let this post derail the rest of the thread.
get back to whatever you were talking about....

That's all fair enough

I wasn't so much advocating for SF, as much as trying to divine their greater appeal in regard to the other left parties

Politics is messy as fuck
