Ouch.....

So were you old school kempo - ie you were a TMA but just sparred very hard? What do u think about Ed Downey? I have no idea about the diffence between Kempo and Kenpo?

i never met/trained under Ed Downey actually
we were out in Dalkey

Kenpo has it's origins in Kung Fu but Ed Parker added a bit of a modern edge to it.. kinda like Jeet Kune Do, i guess..
and then there's old style Kenpo and new style Kenpo

isn't Kempo a karate and Kenpo a Kung Fu? not sure if i remember that properly

don't be afraid to spar either. you wont get battered and it's the best way to learn

Depends on the gym. I got my nose broken in sparring

Alot of head gear doesn't protect the nose.

I wore headgear boxing sparring but rarely in mma.

Yep
Fighting rather than sparring headgear though. They didn't have any sparring headgear in the gym I used to go to, and most people didn't bother with it at all
