so i've found that this has become one of my favourite tv programs ever, series 3 is just wall to wall classics.
i've found its well worth buying the dvd sets as the deleted scenes are almost always just as good as what were contained in the individual episodes... obviously deleted due to time constraints rather than issues of quality. also the strong episodes bear up very well to repeated viewings.
as for series 4, i'm not entirely sure what to make of it yet. some golden moments, and it started off fantasticly, and none of it has been particularly bad, but i am a bit concerned by how much time is being spent away from the office environment in much of these recent episodes. there hasnt nearly been enough creed, kevin or stanley.
i'm really interested in where some of the stories are going though, in particular (spoiler text for those may not be up to date with the new ones)...

toby. michael hates him, and it looks like it has something to do with the fact that he is divorced. he flipped (his lunch) when toby mentioned that his child got caught up in the legal processes of his own divorce, and we know that michael's parents got divorced... remember him as a child wetting himself when his mother got remarried? another thing: in the episode were the photo of michael and jan gets forwarded in an email, toby says "i got eight people sending it to me, including my ex-wife" which would mean that his ex-wife was involved in dunder-miflin. it's all got to be leading up to something... also, did anyone else think toby has shown a creepy side in his infatuation with pam? not officially acknowledging her relationship with jim and just saying "lets wait and see...". on the topic of jim and pams relationship, i dont know how long it can continue happilly. one other thing i found interesting was in the episode where jim was in charge of the office and he made a balls of it, i caught the implication that jim - if he became a manager - might turn into another michael scott (who himself we know to have been a good salesman but just not cut out to be a manager) and that he knows it... will be interesting to see where this all goes.
