Hold on, everyone here knew their orientation at 13. I knew as clear as a bell that I wanted to spend as much time as would ever be allowed with boobs and vaginas.

I find it hard to believe that everyone knows their sexual orientation at 13. I wouldn't trust 13 year old me even though I turned out to be correct about it.

I mean as far as gender reassignment goes, you'd think you could let the kid explore that part of their identity in other ways than surgery.

Any how i wonder how much difference they can actually make physically. The human body is in a way like a big chemical factory and produces all sorts of stuff like hormones for instance so if a young person like that boy had his testicals removed and could not then prouduce testosterone and instead started to take oestrogene from an external source then that will make some difference physically.
If im not mistakeing both genders produce both hormones to some degree ?
But a penis is still gonna be a penis the best they can probarbly do is shorting it and remove the testicals which is still gonna be a long way off haveing a whatchamacallit.

hello there, folks. i’m resurrecting this thread. partly because this is still something i think about, on and off. but also, because there’s an article in the most recent new yorker magazine that asks a lot of the same questions that i suppose i don’t really yet have good answers for:

People who consider themselves radical feminists and spout consistently transphobic hate pretty much make my skin crawl. They completely negate that people other than women designated female at birth can have any sort of othered experience with regards to their gender. They're obsessed with penises as the only symbol of priviledge and completely ignore the fact that trans women are one of the biggest targets of sexual assualt and even MURDER.

Its like all of that bollocks in the riot grrrl movement in the 90s, with "female" spaces that were only open to people who were biologically female.

It seems completely and utterly illogical that you can in anyway further the feminist movement and promote the genuine lived experiences of women if you're so intersectional. LIKE OH GOD, YOU HAVE A PENIS THEREFORE YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I WENT THROUGH GROWING UP AS A GIRL BECAUSE LIKE I'M GOING TO IGNORE THE FACT THAT YOU PROBABLY EXPERIENCED EXTREME DEPRESSION, DYSPHORIA AND POSSIBLE SEXUAL/PHYSICAL VIOLENCE IN YOUR OWN LIFE. ITS JUST NOT AS BAD AS MINE BECAUSE YOU HAVE A PENIS. A PENIS A PENIS A PENIS.

These two groups are also among the most keenly politically tenacious out there. Every word in the language is parsed for offence or to back up a position.
I mean like fair go, fight your corner and good luck. But to discuss the issues is to walk a verbal minefield.
I am not your oppressor because I used the wrong pronoun. But I'll probably agree that I am after 15 minutes of hearing about it.
