Looks likely to be Van Gaal as some sort of long term procurement-specialist overlord type, with some low ego coach like Martinez or Rodgers running the first team as his minion. Sounds quite good actually

It could, at the same time if you're hiring Van Gaal why not put him in charge of the team seeing as his record is probably at least as good as or probably better than any other coach Liverpool could realistically land.
These turkeys make Hodgson look positively stellar.
really? why? given that the vastly experienced roy and the title-winning kenny had us playing like total muck, why do you say roy must be better than martinez or rodgers?
Well, in short, because they've done NOTHING yet to prove that they can win anything or even compete at the level that would be expected at Liverpool. Why not give Pat Fenlon a shout at that rate, or Paul Jewell five years ago.
PS - I didn't say Roy was better, I meant the appointment was better
that is total rubbish. what have you actually heard about rodgers other than what you've read in the last day or two? hodgson came with a very clear style and pedigree and it should have been clear to the board (who at that time were only concerned with selling the club for the bank anyway) that he would bring a regressive style that would not even aim at winning matches and would potentially alienate the players (which is what happened). rodgers has a good record with chelsea's youth team before doing good things at watford and swansea. he is a modern coach with a strong aesthetic which personally i think is great, swansea were terrific this season and finished practically level with LFC on a fraction of the budget.
rodgers of course failed with reading, where an established team of older players rejected - will be very interesting to see how he deals with a few older heads at LFC. stevie g and the hollywood pass might have had its day. fingers crossed.
basically it's a positive appointment with an eye on longevity. i hope he's given a chance and not compared with king kenny at every turn. he didn't sack him. what he will have is an actual plan, which has been missing for the last 3-4 seasons. good luck to him.
and carnlough is lovely
this is an interesting read, from 11 may
