General Election 24th May (1 Viewer)

i suspect he might actually engage in debate and make some attempt at responding to questions raised, which would make him a most disappointing visitor. "eh, sure, we disagree. now do the smile!"

p.s. has anyone seen alan shatter's propaganda over the last few months? the first leaflet was william shatner themed, and i've seen another based on simon cowell. coloured like NOW magazine, with jokes and each other's names under the pictures and all. it's like he was working like mad at home and only showed anyone unrelated to him/not on his payroll once thousands were printed.

I was thinking more along the lines of mock-thanking him profusely for 'having the balls to stand up to the coloureds', playing 'ignorant American' as best I can to see what he says.

i've had a sinn feiner and an FFer to the door. first time, i'd just mixed some cement, second time, my dinner was just ready, so i shooed them both away.

i should have challenged them. cement is cheap.

Tell him how you have to be tough cause once one family of 'em move into a negbourhood they bring all their friends ad the palce is ruined. And how you've see this sort of thing all the time in the states.

I'm thinking of playing fur-coat-and-no-knickers southern girl, perhaps quoting a racist I met once. "I ain' saying we should wipe 'em out er nuthin, just....well, hummin'birds n'sparrows don' mix, and neither should we..."

But yeah, that sort of thing. Might also ask him what he's gonna do about 'that dang hippy', and point to John Gormley's house. I wanna be McDowell bait so damn bad, dudes.

lure him into bed and have someone take a few snaps before booting him out on the street and throwing his clothes out the window

just wondering out of interest, are the SWP running any guys this time

i know a contributer to their website, Rory Hearne is running for People before Profit alliance banner but anyone running under SWP banner

A few months ago the SWP ran into a phone box, Clark Kent style, and emerged in a brand new shiny costume. The People Before Profit Alliance. Same people. New name. Watered down politics.

AFAIK that's a conglomeration of Socialists such as the SWP, the Socialist Party, and the Worker's Party. However, in Cork North-Central the Socialist Party are running a candidate against the Worker's Party, I can't do that math.

How the fuck they managed to rupture into three parties saying near identical things is beyond me. Anyone have the scoop on that?

Can I haul out the People's Front of Judea v The Judean People's Front gag now?

Heh heh.

Ah, de sewshlists. Great craic altogether.

I have spent many a march trying to get out from under whatever posters the SWP were carrying because they were almost never about the thing the march was actually for. Ah, bless.

If you'd given a link to the clip on youtube it'd have been far more effective. About the split though, I was at a talk given by Kieran Allen a few weeks back about his new book, and he's a card carrying SWP member as well. You could sense he was a bit disillusioned by the whole fracture, and was really pushing this People before Profit Alliance thing as a positive move.

I'd say he was also disillusioned by the kind of nutjobs that turned out for the meeting. One guy went on for 5 minutes about how Ireland now resembled 1930's era Germany under the Nazis. Then a German woman piped up to say that there was also a similarity in the fact that the Nazis also put Flouride into the water to make people stupid!

It's bromide of the mind.

That prick Keith Redmond's only contribution to the election gig so far has been to slag off the Greens for saying they want to remove flouride from the water supply. His contention was that it's not a problem as the damage caused is only a cosmetic issue and easily fixed. Oh, you're a dentist, Keith...? Prick. Look after yourself, why don't you. Oh, and by the way, my eight year old goddaughter needs her teeth "cleaned" because of excess flouride. Explain why we need it exactly? Read the Greens report then fuck off.

Prick.

It is nice to see that the PD's are trying their best to field recognisable candidates. Frank McNamara from the Late Late, Keith Redmond from the toothpaste ad. Seriously, they'll have your man from the perlico ads next. Because famous people are clever, y'see. "Famous". Toothpaste ads, like.

Pricks.

Anyway, Keith Redmong. If you don't remove those posters from the roundybout at Black Banks that block the view of the Howth Road, I'll fucking take them down myself and shove them up your hole.

Prick.

But the difference is that the Nazis wiped out their nutjobs. The best and worst thing about democracy is that nutjobs also have a voice. The thing is, I can see the guy's point in that there are worrying elements that, if not kept in check, could turn quite ugly, but it's a bit twisted to take it to such a crazy extreme.

Anyway, yeah, the factionalisation of the left is really disappointing. I'd be all for most of the same shit the SWP is for, it's just that their methods are not something I can handle, and it's all bogged down in way more rhetoric with very few practical strategies.
