The Body & Soul Stage at the Electric Picnic Festival 2009

If the Electric Picnic is a living breathing being, the Body and Soul area is its pulsating heart beating to the music. The village is a veritable fusion of vibrant creativity, sustainability, healing arts, performance, cutting edge theatre, visual installation, gardens, and art that has been inspired by nature and infused with a sense of permanence, at a time of massive transformation and change.

The custom build stage, nestled amongst the oak trees in the natural amphitheatre is at its best - and programmed with acts beloved by its creators. Be they known or unknown, down tempo or rocking, classical, or trad, electronic or African, they come with and its one that promises to take your body & your soul on a journey that will leave you inspired, alive and in your heart.

Beach House
Beach House is the sublime self-titled debut album from the Baltimoreboy-girl duo ofVictoria LegrandandAlex Scally. Together they have forged a uniquely beguiling sound, drawing you into a world of hazy beauty and melancholy remembrances of summers past, with music that manages to be both understated and lush.

Lamb
Even with the best laid plans, true greatness usually springs from a lucky accident. Certainly on paper, Lamb should never work. Yet after eight years together, the duo remain the captivating result of two worlds colliding, the stunning compromise in an ongoing battle of musical tastes, personalities and lifestyles. Conflict has rarely sounded this mesmerizing.

We are thrilled that Lamb have re-grouped for this tour. Trust us when we say that it’s gonna be very special.

Soundcarriers
Hailing from west coast Nottingham, The Soundcarriers trans port the listener to somewhere completely different. Resistant to being placed in any one category, this 4-piece have exposed themselves to everything in the crowded air; being able to absorb without being absorbed; Their patchwork-psychedelic sound morphs into out-and-out groove before your very ears. Intruded only by 3-part harmonies, those who hear them find it impossible to describe their vibes let alone keep still.

Blindfold
Blindfold are four London based Icelanders who produce some of the most beautifully cinematic indie-rock music being made today.

While it’s easy to see the influence of Ulrich Schnauss, RadioHead and fellow Icelanders Sigur Ros, Blindfold bring a completely fresh feel to their music, but it’s their mesmerizing live shows that really pin the band down as being something extraordinary and this is one show not to be missed at Electric Picnic as we continue to bring you the best in new music from across the globe, trust us, you’ll thank us when you discover the quite brilliant Blindfold.

Amorphous Androgynous
Following our psychedelic theme Body & Soul throws its arms open to embrace this cosmic space music concept created by the Amorphous Androgynous/ Future Sound Of London. After over 10 years of the ‘Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble’ concept as sporadic radio broadcasts, they finally released the first volume proper as an official album on PLATIPUS records in late 2008 to rave reviews...

TIME OUT declared it ' the best compilation album ever' and NOEL GALLAGHER of Oasis voted it his album of the year 'or any other year ' and claimed 'it had changed the way he thinks about music '.

Golden Animals
While the rest of the world continued to go mad, Tommy and Linda bought a van, left Brooklyn and headed West to be able to devote themselves more deeply to their rock & roll band. In the spring of 2007 Golden Animals arrived to Southern California and have since resided in LA's surrounding deserts. Out there on any given night you may be able to hear them jamming... if you were a lizard or coyote.
"you can practically inhale the pungent aroma of their pirate shirts. They're a marriage made in psychedelic desert-blues heaven." BLENDER

The Tulla Ceili Band
One of the premier céilí bands in the world, County Clare’s Tulla Céilí Band was formed in 1946 by Paddy Canny and P.J. Hayes. Since then they have won several All Ireland Ceili Band titles, toured the globe and entranced audiences and dancers alike from Clare to Carnegie Hall.
Do not miss this very important musical showdown – and a slice of our heritage at its best.

This is true. Mind blowing compilation. Although Noel G. is still shit.

I think he's pretty funny. Liam is possibly funnier but in a more subtle way.

no, really, subtle.

Funny yes. Noel does come out with some funny lines/insights in interviews. Morrissey does too. I was referring more to his musical efforts.

I'm not sure Liam is trying to be funny. If he is, he's a comedian alright.

gotta love Some Might Say

I'm not sure Liam is trying to be funny.

he is.

i don't know why I'm having this conversation, I don't care about oasis. but anyway....

how about Gene, do you like them?

Must admit, I did like their album Olympian back in the day.

I said he's funny, I didn't say he was capable of turning his life into art

That's true. I just couldn't be bothered googling for an interview. Well, we'll have to agree that you're plain wrong in this case.

latest EP announcement:
Stradbelly Laughs just got bigger with Tommy Tiernan topping the bill

The irrepressible TOMMY TIERNAN will be taking centre stage at this year’s Electric Picnic’s Stradbelly Laughs. Ireland’s best loved and most controversial comic will be making hisonly Irish festival performance this year on the Stradbally stage. The world’s greatest Improv Troupe- STEVE FROST IMPROV ALL STARS will also now be providing laughs at Electric Picnic which takes place on 4th, 5th, 6th September in Stradbally Hall, Co. Laois.

Not content with breaking box office records, TOMMY TIERNAN recently set a Guinness World Record for the longest stand-up show by an individual comedian (36 hours 15 mins). Tommy’s work is a constant interrogation of big ideas - sex, religion and family - through the lens of his quirks, personal demons and sense of outrage. No other comic can match Tommy for sheer passion, intensity and honesty and to spend time in this man’s company is a treasure to cherish.

Tommy will be joined at Stradbelly Laughs with no less than 3 fellow Perrier Award winners and the best of established and rising stars on the circuit, with acts from afar afield as Canada, Australia, USA, UK and of course Ireland.

STEVE FROST IMPROV ALL STARS are widely regarded as the world’s greatest Improv troupe. With the stars of Who's Line Is It Anyway? (Channel 4), the format is simple. The comedians improvise a full set of comedy based on audience suggestion. It's comedy without a safety net, guerrilla theatre that is achingly funny. The show features five current masters of Improv, notably Stephen Frost, Andy Smart, Steve Steen, Richard Vranch and Ian Coppinger.

Stradbelly Laughs will be provided by…Never Mind The Buzzcocks Sean Hughes; Another 'Perrier' winner, ex 'Corky and the Juice Pigs' guitarist and wonderfully demented CanadianPhil Nichol; Australia's Brendon Burns; Gavin Webster, Kevin Bridges, Joe Rooney, Eric Lalor and the unrelenting high energy of sketch group Dead Cat Bounce AND a heady mix of superstars, circuits stall warts and the best of emerging talent all under the stewardship of your MCs for the weekend the outrageous I Dare Ya (RTÉ2) duo; Andrew Stanley & Damien Clarke
