There's loads and loads of places to rent in Camden and Islington - so I'm sure you'll find somewhere cheap enough around there. Only problem with them is the council tax is stupidly high. Lambeth has the lowest around London.
Check out the Gumtree.co.uk web site - it's got loads of stuff (bulletin boards and ads and all that) with info about living in the Kingdom of England.
