it's obvious a lot of factors are at play in folks disillusionment.
the working class in the USA have been in decline since the 70's -
outsourcing, cooperate lobbying, manufacturing disappearing and in the same period
there was a huge increase in Moral Majority style Christian fundamentalism
who are also good at lobbying.
to be honest I don't understand the rise of the religious right at all or why Paisley types
appeal to people.

again Trump like Reagan was a chancer who won over the evangelical vote - despite being
a porn star shagger.

I hate hypocrisy and Trump reeks of it.

I will say though... The Fat Man is consistent. He feels the GOP screwed him over, and he is doing what he excels at in response: absolutely trashing them.

He's going to hurt the GOP as much as he can, for as long as he can.

Annnnd, yeah. That's ok.

So right now the likes of McConnell and senior GOP types are weighing the damage Trump is doing to their party, against the damage they'd do to their party if the booted him.

Ideally they want him gone, but they also want to appear not to have had a hand in it.

The Fat Man is a loose cannon right now, and could do virtually anything.

If I'm McConnell I'm going to want him muzzled, and incapacitated.

I'd probably not want him 25th'd, unless they can help it. But I'd also want to have my hand on the trigger. So, I'd be cozying up with Pelosi behind the scenes, tough it out, while making sure there's a way to get him yanked at a moment's notice. It's in the Dem's interest to co-operate here too.

The cops won't be allowed accidentally let all the lads through again, that's not going to happen twice. There more than likely isn't the appetite for him getting a successful coup through.

So, from a GOP point of view, they just need to hunker down, watch, and hope Trump doesn't scupper the party too brutally. But, if he does, they need to have the ability to stop that, and put Pence in place I suppose.

Potentially just one or more ex-military types randomly turning up armed and carrying cable tie handcuffs at the seat of government. As you do.

It's possible/probable that two differnet rioters just picked up the handcuffs that actual cops had dropped along the way, but the available photos could be interpreted as an organised plan to get in and take hostages.
