It's almost always the same story.

I've met a number of American women giving out about feminism. Really going for it, kind of out of the blue too, resulting in a massive pile-on, hating feminism, horrible stupid feminists, etc.

I've stopped interacting for a while now, but I have asked which aspect of feminism they found most horrible. Voting? Being allowed take out a mortgage?

Ultimately it came down to them not liking some of the clothes people they thought were feminist wore. Opening or not opening doors was another important issue for one or two people.

I know you're being tongue-in-cheek, but I think you've the wrong end of the stick here. I'd say it ultimately came down to them personally taking against feminists that they see in the media, then trying to rationalise it. They hate feminists for the same reason my Ma hates Leo Varadkar, or @chris d hates Nick Cave

I think what's going on is people have been taught to hate certain words, without having any idea about what those words mean. Eg Liberal, feminist, socialism, etc.

It's a fairly solid tactic; if you don't like black people for example, you repeatedly display images of black people doing shitty things. Once you've mad the association between black people and shitty things, your work is done. You don't need to say anything overtly racist.

If you want to discredit feminism, you get teh most annoying dickheads available, purporting to be staunch advocates for feminism, and you give them as much rope as possible.

Speaking of which - this may be wishful thinking on some people's part - but it looks like the Senate races in Georgia will go to run-offs in January which means the Senate might not be necessarily lost to the Democrats .... or at least that's my understanding of what's happening.
