  • Monsoon/Heenan

    Votes: 5 23.8%

  • Poll closed .
But really .... just not being Trump is more than enough for me right now.

Ok. I personally don't think that's nearly a good enough ask.

But anyway, lets see what happens for now.

“Answer” I think you mean?

No, you’re right - it’s not a very good answer. But when you look back over the last four years and think about some of the things that Trump did:

- biggest programme of tax cuts for the rich in US history
- constant stoking of racial tension, civil unrest and tacit support for white supremacy
- pulling out of international agreements such as the Paris accord
- moving US embassy to Jerusalem and generally letting Netanyahu do whatever the hell he wants

etc etc ...

Stuff that is “not as bad as that” is fine by me. I would have preferred Sanders too (though I genuinely don’t know if he would have won)

No I mean, an ask to the nominee - "Will you defeat the other guy?"

I suppose my criticism is that all that is being offered there is a return to 2015, i.e. the situation that led to Trump being elected and climate catastrophe as we know it. I wouldn't vote for that myself, i'd demand more. From Biden. Not from Sanders, from Biden.

It's all theoretical of course, neither of us live in the US. Perhaps all those vague (and they are vague) promises of him being a bridge candidate to something better will turn out to be true.

I'm not trying to just be in here moaning about how everyone isn't left enough but it seems quite clear that when all that's being offered is "Not Donald Trump" it's at best, barely enough. I'll try and be clearer in my posts.

So if you were in the US would you vote for Biden or Trump?

I thought it was just me that had trouble sometimes figuring out if you were joking or not.

Smiley face.

i wonder - especially if the dems don't get the senate - how much argy bargy there will be internally along the lines of 'well, we'd have done better had we had bernie leading the charge' vs. 'aren't we glad now we didn't run bernie cos we barely just scraped it with biden as was'

I wonder how long Melania with stick around if trump loses?
Her stand up comedy career has been on hold as well.

LOL just saw some lad vox popilied on France 24 there "I disagree with the mail-in ballots. I agree with the absentee ballots, but I disagree with the mail-in ones" and I'm sitting there like "How the fuck do the absentee ballots get in if they're not sent in the mail??"

As a fun mental game I've been trying to understand these people I disagree with.

I would guess that person meant service people, diplomats, people like that should be allowed to vote by mail, but not people who are just-too-darned-un-American to show up at the polling station.

Also, I was asking someone about Gore/Bush in Florida '00. What exactly is different here?

Biden I imagine will be busy undoing whatever mess Trump leaves behind not to mention deal with the pandemic or even trying to stave off civil unrest. The first term usually focous on domestic issues anyway. It's more interesting maybe to think what Trump might do will his followers still be there waiting for his next tweet ? The whole thing most likely couldn't happen in world without smart phones in the first place.

All the progressive candidates (ie "the Squad") did really well, better than before; fifteen dollar minimum wage was passed in Florida by a supermajority; drugs legalised all over the place... those Fox News exit interviews...

I get it that they would have shouted Socialism, which they always do and they did anyway, but when asked people keep going for progressive tickets. I'm not saying Sanders would have won, but perhaps there is a lesson here? Does it not make more sense than all the headscratching and "I don't get it? Why Trump? Guess they must be thick."

@flashback?

from what little i understand, simply down to margins. FLA was won by 600 votes in the end, and down to a hair splittingly technical issue. it may be that biden wins enough states that one state on its own may not be enough to make a difference.

i'd forgotten just how well ross perot did in 92 (the year clinton was first elected) - he actually got just over half the number of votes HW bush did. i'd say clinton would have been toast otherwise.

AOC just passes the age requirement three weeks before the next election.
biden will be what, 82, will the party countenance harris facing any opposition for the ticket should biden stand aside? (this is moot of course should trump win again)
