is...is this a genuine quote?

please tell me it is

Oh yes, it is.
Does it count as 'reading' if you listen and laugh at the audio book, she asked incredulously? It's pure comedy gold. I haven't laughed so much in ages. Walk a marathon in one day and you won't even realize because you're laughing so hard. Best find ever. PURE COMEDY GOLD.

I've read all of these. They were completely addictive, despite being some of the most badly-written books I've ever read with one of the most unlikeable main characters (Bella) EVER. Then again, I'll read/watch any old trash

I have only got through the first two. In fairness, I don't think I'd get through any of them if I had to actually read them. No sentence is longer than 5 words. Was there not an editor? I swear the word incredulous is used at least twice, if not more, per chapter. Audio book is another story though. The narrator sounds about 14 and her voices for the characters adds to both the comedy and dislike for 'Bella". Yeah, I'll listen to just about anything.

The films were weirdly enjoyable in a trashy, pants tingling sort of way even if rpattz really really needed to wash his hair. And I do have an absolute whopping crush on Kristen Stewart and the chap that plays her father with the epic moustache..

Seriously though the entire franchise profoundly bothers me! It just makes millions of tweens think that having a psycho, lunatic stalker for a boyfriend is the absolute best thing in the world like ever and they'll absolutely die if they don't find some guy to whom romance equals the invasion of all power barriers and hey, while we're at it lets live in a world where no means yes and stop means harder! Seriously how do people get so caught up in the romance and not realise the entire thing is absolutely ridden with latent sexism oh so cleverly disguised with bloody chest-heaving levels of melodrama. and thus the throves of bad poets avec eyeliner increase.

also and yes, this is pedantic but vampire baseball? you hit baseballs so fast they move at the speed of lightning? why the FUCK don't you break the bats in half then?

end twatlight hate here.

Wow. I can't believe I'm actually going to defend Twilight here but.... how is it any different than the run of the mill Rom-com? Tweens or women in their 30's who are still single. One of these days someone is going to see the real me and sweep me off my feet. You know, THE ONE. Please. It's all a big joke and a delusion. It's predictable entertainment, that's all.

Oh and was the baseball thing about the sound of the bat hitting the ball (thunder) rather than it looking like lightening? Sweet jesus, someone shoot me because I can't believe I just posted this.

The difference is rom coms (and i suppose I could attack a couple of those if I had my feminist hat on and was feeling critical) don't (or at least rarely) propentiate the notion that an ideal saviour of a man is the kind who sneaks into your bedroom and watches you while you're sleeping for monthes on end.

I prefer True Blood myself when it comes to recent vampire things. I thought I might be annoyed by the sexism but tbh I wasn't. I don't think it's all that far from the sort of hysterical, I've-watched-too-many-shite-american-teen-romances craziness that can actually take place in your head when you're a teenage girl. Also it's basically a few thousand pages of Meyer fantasising about her perfect Mormon guy (there's some v funny articles online about the parallels between Twilight and various parts of the book of Mormon). I get the impression she's a right f*cking eejit ;)

Yeah, that's the way I see it too. Then again, I get bored very easily with feminist mumbo-jumbo. I'll probably get slated but I think it's an easy out for those who just don't want to take on the responsibility of needing a bit of cop on. Maybe this is just stemming from having to sit through endless critiques in art school with girls moaning about the world. I've no tolerance. I think John Hughes wrecked my head more as a teen than this Meyer chick ever could have if she were around back then. Vampires are at least blantent fantasy. An Andrew McCarthey or Judd Nelson... not so much. ;)

Like any girl could be so interesting that you'd want to think about nothing but her all day every day, PAH

imho the film captures the mood of the book very well.

read into that what you will.

(ps. his haircut is reason enough to watch it)

I think it's worth watching just for the, "hang on tight, spider monkey" line, which was a disappointment when it wasn't in the book. Pure comedy. I had to rewind that bit just for another guttural laugh. I have to thank the MTV movie awards. I had no idea what Twilight was before then and decided if it won that many awards I needed to check it out. All those screaming girls. Hilarious.

I'm not exactly down on the 'mumbo-jumbo' bandwagon either, i abhor a pseudo-feminist as much as the next girl, but i also think it's by no means moany to not want a psycho for a boyfriend! i mean seriously, do you not think theres something a bit wrong with making young girls think thats actual romance? i'd say the exact same thing if it was reversed gender.. because seriously, its weird when its 'fatal attraction; but when its 'twilight' and the guy is being an absolute loon then its the most romantic thing ever and painted as mere dedication rather than obsession..

Hmmm, I wish I'd the faith in Meyer to say that I thought she deliberately made them both out to be obsessive because she was making some sort of point about something (the insanity of teenage romances/love between people with pathological personalities/going out with vampires is a bad idea) but sadly I doubt it. I'd a point here but when I started to type I realised that I've actually forgotten most of what happened in the later books. Anyway, I just read them like you were supposed to think that he was totally obsessive and crazy.

I still don't see the difference from that or any rom-com movie out there. How is it different than being with a boy who doesn't want to admit in public that he likes you or wanting a boy who talks down to you and makes you feel bad about who you are? Pretty in Pink and Breakfast Club, respectively. Or even someone like John Cusack in every movie he's ever been in? It's all absurd delusion of romance. Is holding a boom-box outside your window any different than someone you want watching you sleep? Or killing someone with a ballpoint pen but hell has good taste in music. Not so much, in my book.
