I got that out with my gf one night and all we did was tear it to absolute pieces. When we copped that The Pin was actually Eli from Witness that was it, it had no hope of ever redeeming itself in our eyes.

I bawled my eyes out when that film ended. Can't remember the last time a film did that to me actually. It wasn't crushingly depressing as much as just sad.

I haven't seen it about 10 years but I remember i found Naked quite depressing as a young lad.

i went to see a 1971 mike leigh film called bleak moments a few years ago with my mum. the name was pretty accurate. i didn't actually enjoy it very much, it was like sitting through real-life awkward, depressing moments for an hour and a half. i've heard people complain that other mike leigh films are 'just depressing' though ('all or nothing' in particular) and i think that's bullshit, i think a lot of mike leigh is pretty upbeat in fact. in a kind of grim way maybe...
palindromes was pretty bleak...the first time i saw it i thought it was shite but i saw it again a few months ago and liked it a lot more.

palindromes was pretty bleak...the first time i saw it i thought it was shite but i saw it again a few months ago and liked it a lot more.

I thought it was funny. Again, way way too OTT for true discomfort. Fuckin hilarious at times, thought it was a good film though.

Totally agree about the Mike Leigh stuff, they're pretty upbeat in their own way.

Red Road was quite the downer as well. Glasgow and tower blocks and the most uncomfortable consensual sex scene ever.

Jordan Catalano was soooo hawt in that movie.
But I was all, like, YUCK when he grew an infected bum in his arm.
The best bit was when Sarah off Labyrinth was bumming a cucumber with her buddy for talcum powder and then you got to see the top of her pubes.
The funny black lad wasn't funny in it though, so -2 points for that.
