No Disco Petition (1 Viewer)

no disco; how about a 2nd front...

re: the no disco stuff.

how about...

...letter to irish times/indo, get arts council-style people to sign. and michael d., and representatives of various labels/bands/etc, get donal dineen, maybe someone from uaneen's family, something like that. is this an awful idea? is it more "credible" than an online petition (where, potentially, one person can sign a thousand times?)

off the top of my head...

Dear Madam,

We write to express our dismay at RTE's recent decision to drop the acclaimed music show "No Disco", and to ask (demand? request? - suggestions please) that it be reinstated. The show has been invaluable in providing coverage to Irish and international music and its loss would be a huge blow to indigenous Irish music.

Yours,

The Undersigned.

suggestions please. i don't like the phrasing of the 2nd sentence. and the rest of it.

anyway, help please.

newspapers and more to come.
plans have gotten quite elaborate 8)

incidentally one of the main reasons giving for cancelling it was that it was too left field....

they certainly do be working

my little sister complained and complained and complained
to rte by post and email and carrier pigeon for, like, *ages*
until they agreed to return The Famous Five to it's rightful
place on Network Two.

altho' it has dissapeared again from the schedules...

bastards!

alright, maybe hold off on the letter for a bit if dudley's got other plans...

is there a printable vertion of the petition that I can er. print out and bring to Belfast tomorrow?

you could do the old ctrl+c-then-ctrl+v-into-word-then-print-out trick...

over 1000 now. another thought, dudley. newstalk 106 will do a feature on anything, given a bit of pestering. and they love rte-bashing, being an independent broadcaster and all. they're over at www.newstalk106.ie so if it becomes appropriate to give out to someone, they could be good.

1626 names. nice. newstalk is a good idea too, those two on before george hook 'dublin life' the show is called. i think i can get in contact with the producer.

Reply from RTE.

I got this very promptly from RTE this morning. I sent a complaint to complaints at rte.ie on Saturday, and this dropped in my mailbox at about 9.20... A bit PRish, but respectful enough.

"RTE has received a number of representations expressing disappointment at
the proposed ending of No Disco. All these representations are being
forwarded to the Director of Television Programmes.

I have been informed that the future of No Disco is under review in the
context of RTE's overall music policy.
The station is planning to develop and expand its music programmes going
forward. (One example of new directions is Philip King's "Other Voices -
Songs From A Room".)

Yours sincerely

Peter Feeney
