Tour de France 2007 thread (4 Viewers)

Remember all those threads on The Clinic forum on Cyclingnews.com?
I used to read them all the time. But when the Froome shit went completely off the scales it was infiltrated by trolls who went total over-the-top tinfoil hat on it. It was clearly a ploy to drown out those who were making actual coherent arguments as to why rider X was doping.

Vaughters used to post there from time to time too.

How there's still anyone left on the planet who things Pogachar is winning fair and square is beyond me. Today even Eddy Merckx said that Pogachar was better than he ever was. And he failed his fair share of drugs tests too.

I hardly ever look at cyclingnews now but from April 2001 on it is scary to think how much time I spent on that website. Procyclingstats is only cycling site left I look at much.I remember the day Cyclingnews started their forum but I never joined. Actually I did in late 2010's but I never posted anything.

Pogacar is on some serious juice. I mean he could be naturally better than anyone ever but to such an absurd level? Not a chance.
Still Lance was far worse - very selective about what races he did. Lance "I ride harder in training that races" never gave anything back to fans. He wouldn't even cycle up Patrick's Hill once in 2009 and he is a sociopath at best.

Not much left to get excited about in men's cycling now.

I must look at what went wrong in Quebec GP where Pogacar got caught out.

I love Flash Gordon (1980) remember watching it on RTE on Xmas Day in early 80's. Camp as fuck sci-fi tail end of disco fantasy. The special effects have a weird psychedelic feel that you never see in CGI crap
The camp Skeletor style guy was a cool baddie. I think he had a thing for Ornella Muti (Ming's daughter).

Best Queen record too.

In 15 years or something ye can remind me I'm a gobshite, but I'm not convinced Tadej is doping.

I'm not even 100% convinced he's up to Sky type games with TUEs. I think he's probably clean.

Sorry. Jesus. I feel a bit silly, but here we are.

Tadej and Jonas are the current result of phenomenal cyclists getting access to phenomenal untraceable juice.
Pogacar, Vingegaard, Evenepoel, VDP and Van Aert (not so much recently) are ridiculous. They must have huge natural talent but there is obviously something else going on. I have no idea where doping is at nowadays. I was well up on this in late 2000's but not for over a decade.
Jonas Vingegaard was not seen as a big talent even when he turned pro so I would be more dubious about him than the others who were monster talents as teens.
Also the entire Visma team are on serious juice - everyone who joins them seems to take a massive step up (e.g. Christophe La Porte).

I strongly suspected Lance was doped in early 2000s (we had already had 1998 Festina scandal) but I was very reluctant to say so without evidence. Lance is a megalomaniac and behaved like someone who had a lot hide inc. bullying and regularly permanently falling out with those close to him.

Tadej or Mathieu love racing as much as they can and they get a collosal buzz of riding with panache, no matter how dubious it looks. Lance had lots of other bullshit sidelines going on and was never remotely likeable even as a cancer survivor before he won the Tour.

If I saw Lance getting beaten up on the street I would only intervene to remind the lads attacking him of the legal consequences. I wouldn't give a fuck what happens to Lance. I hated the fucker in 2000.
I always bring up Lance as all of the above mentioned riders are massively more likeable. As a person Pogacar I reckon would be dead sound - if he was an honest cyclist.

Guido Carlesi (1936 - 2/10/2024)
A pro from 1956-1966, Carlesi was nicknamed Il Coppino - see photos.
He won 10 grand tour stages and was a regular top ten finisher in the Giro.
Carlesi is best remembered for finishing 2nd in the 1961 Tour to Anquetil, a place ahead of Charly Gaul.

Marlon Perez (1976 - 3 October 2024)
Tragically Marlon was stabbed to death in Colombia. He rode the Giro three times and was a major rider on the Colombian domestic circuit.

Emile Daems (1938 - 17 October 2024)
A pro from 1959-66, the Belgian sprinter-roadman won three monuments, 4 Tour stages and 2 Giro stages.
Daems and Carlesi (see above) were team mates from 1960-62.
Solo victory in 1963 San Remo:

Roubaix 1963: Outsprinted Van Looy and Jan Jansen. What a top 10 in this one.

He kicked Nibali's ass

in the snow

Dr. Ferrari methods are banjaxed now!

Remember Thomas de Gendt getting kicked off Zwift on grounds he must be cheating? Story surfaced the last day of March 2020. So we initially thought it was an early pandemic April Fool.
"..you missed your calling as as pro..."

its mad. Reminds me of that aul lad who got doping riding a gran fondo in Italy.

pure chancers.

Jos Lammertink (1958 - 24 November 2024)
Lammertink was a Dutch pro in 1980's with Panasonic (supporting Eric Vanderaerden in his prime) and TVM among others. Lammertink was national road champion in 1986. Jos also won Kuurne-Brusselles-Kuurne and two Vuelta stages in his 5 grand tour starts.

Crescenzo D'Amore (1979 - 1 December 2024)
Beautiful name but I can't remember him. D'Amore was 1997 World Junior Road Champion in 1997 in San Sebastian. As a pro he was journeyman sprinter. Sadly he died in a car accident after seemingly suffering a medical emergency.
