What movie did you watch last night? (5 Viewers)

Left work early yesterday because I was feeling sick so I beached myself on the counch and watched the following:

Birdman: My second time watching it and I enjoyed it even more this time round. First time watching it, I knew nothing about it at all apart from the fact that Michael Keaton is in it, so I didn't quite know what to make of it. Didn't stop me thinking about it a lot afterwards mind you. This time I was able to just relax and enjoy it more, take in some of the amazing shots, scenes etc. It felt kinda long last time round but it flew by on second viewing, much like Inherent Vice. I think this, Inherent Vice and Enemy are some of the best films I've seen in a long time.

Coherence: Seems to be compared to Primer a good bit, which encouraged me to watch it. Unfortunately, it has some of the most annoying editing and camera work I've seen in some time, so I couldn't quite get into it. Dare I say, I kinda wish they'd do a remake because it seemed to have some good, interesting ideas, it was just shot really badly.

Kill List: First saw this about 2 years ago. Still just as gruesome second time round, and no less crazy or enjoyable.

I recorded Kill List-- will watch it tonight fro the first time

I watched this last night

Very much of its time and not quite the masterpiece that is The Ipcress File. Still, good stuff.

Need to re-watch Billion Dollar Brian now

The recent colin farrell Total Recall. I wanted it to be really good, I want to see Col Faz in a good film, but... it's just not great. Thin. Lots of chasing. I had low expectations and some wine so I did enjoy it okay. Had tuned out by the end, can't really remember what happens.

Sweet hovercars and Kate Beckinsale is outrageously attractive.

I loved the design of the city and the futuristic technology. Kate looked good but her character was far too cartoonish and over the top.

I saw Chappie last night. Good fun, great effects and robot design...some major plot and storytelling issues. But fun. McDara' review on Thumped is pretty spot on.

Watched the new Robocop. I can't imagine what this would be without having seen the original. Maybe it would be good, but I have seen the original, many times, and this new one is crap.

What We Do in the Shadows. It was fairly disappointing - too thin a story to make into a film, only a handful of laughs.
Yeah not quite enough proper laughs in it, putting the fussy politeness of New Zealanders into that kind of horror scenario only goes so far in comedy terms.. I did like some of the touches of pathos, like the one who was pining over his lost sweetheart now in her 90s and the woman who they were stringing along as their cleaning lady / servant for years who was forlornly hoping to be rewarded with vampirism.

Totally, but they seemed more suited to a TV show.

The imitation game

I agree with none of the things on poster. Buddy movie acting/direction. I still love Kiera Knightley. Fake wartime england rammed into a film canister to be shipped to america. I can see nothing but his nose most of the time which isn't his or the directors fault but it does color my opinion.

The last seduction.

Jesus the 90's. Somewhere between soft porn, pulp novel and slapstick (which i think is unintentional). S'alright though. I mean like an episode of cold case is alright.

I do wonder about the trashy stuff in the 90's, it's like entire genres of film got washed away by the likes of Tarentino who decided to take it all very seriously.

Ah The Last Seduction is deadly. As is Red Rock West. John Dahl went a bit patchy after that.

Last night I finally watched It Follows. Totally deserving of the praise it’s getting. The best horror I’ve seen in ages. Great premise and a deadly score. More slow burn creepy than jump out of your seat scary.

apparently the only film I have seen by him is Rounders. I remember enjoying it but I suspect it would be terrible if I was to see it today.

I bet poker players think it's as ridiculous as musicians* thought Whiplash was.
