Your work situation (4 Viewers)

My bro spent years working and also studying from home to eventually get a degree in his field. Less than a year after he got on that career path he quit and is back at his old job. And your post is exactly why. Every day day during lockdown he'd get an email at 16:30 saying "get this done by first thing tomorrow".
Thats like the time I thought I'd like to be a trucker. Did the whole biz which took forever and got a job and lasted a month.

It was intergenerationally traumatic. Back on the brush for good...with a new found spring in my step!

Tangential but once a truck arrived and all the chippies (set builders/wood butchers) were having mad bants with the driver. This is very rare. Turns out he chucked in the set building for truck driving. His reason: He didn't like all the travel of building sets in exotic locations. So traded that for living in a truck. No wonder all the chippies were laughing at him.

They fired our head of HR and all the building air conditioning has broken down (presumably unrelated events)

But very likely no school tomorrow - yay

Just had a long old chat with footy boss. Good things.

"Is there anything from last season that could be better or anything?"
Well I'd like to get paid

"FUCKS SAKE!!!!!! Is that still going on?"
Are you in the office?
"Yes"
Well I don't want you throwing chairs around or anything, just have a word.

He's on my side.

I think I'll get paid today. Also, sexy new stadium and European football with two, maybe three, teams. Not that into soccerball, but more work.

I've tried.
Old company got loads of lads telehandler licences during the London Olympics. They didn't get me on it because "we need him in the City, he's good with corporate clients, and he's too good with the lads on the ground, we can't have him in a machine".

That's nice, but flattery don't pay my bills.

Then another work didn't get me on it because my line manager was an insecure prick (daddy issues, to go back to another thread). I was actually trying to take his job, to be fair.

Tangent to @Unicron 's issues. I'm playing the old, wait till 4:30 on a Friday before sending out an email, because I can't be arsed with dealing with any response until Monday at the earliest.

I still haven't heard back from these fuckers. I'm going to do the same with a follow up reminding them that I'm going on holiday from Tuesday for the remainder of the week

Eek. Can't sleep. Did a nighttime derig of a shop display, and I haven't done that in a while.

The wood butchers were like"if we knew what was actually involved we'd have brought proper tools". It's a fair point. Smashing up tiles, actual ceramic tiles, and searching for screws. Thankfully I had Jimmy Gorilla Bar, the hardest working tool in showbusiness.

I don't like moaning about the new guys (anymore), but fuck I had a couple of diamonds last night. I think they literally thought they were on holiday. There was panels, 15mm MDF, 6mm screwed on that, tiles on that. So heavy in fairness. So me and inanimate Jimmy Bar separated the 15mm from the 6mm&tiles. And Newman says "no, it's definitely the same weight it was before you removed the tiles and stuff".

DID YOU GROW UP ON THE FUCKING MOON OR SOMETHING?

And now I can't sleep.

I've spent most of the last decade specialising in my role and now I'm starting a totally different one in a field I haven't got any tacit knowledge of. I'm not too concerned, admin is admin, but it's a strange feeling to walk away from something I know I'm good at.
It’s the civil service way.
