US Presidential Elections 2008 (2 Viewers)

Every party wants to be in power.

Put down the bong.

nah, nah, nah...i'm sure they'd prefer to be in power but is it completely impossible that they may have accepted, early on, that defeat was highly probable so in preparation orchestrated a best gain loss? or are they just run by stupid people with no gift for the longterm political chessgame....a respectable(mc cain) loss for a lame duck administration with a solid scape goat(palin)..the world economy crumbled under their watch...wanting to be in power is alll fine and dandy but there must be more sophisticated minds behind that curtain thats behind the man behind the curtain...think about and feel free to borrow me bong anytime.

They didn't try and lose the election. They tried to win it.

The idea that they would go into opposition just not to have to put up with the hassle anymore cos things continue to get worse is not likely.
Who knows how things will be in 4 year's time?

And anyway incumbents generally win elections, even Republicans know that. So you're always better off in power no matter what.

The only scary thing is that it took things getting this fucked up before the Republicans would be kicked out.

'you're always better off in power no matter what.'

Don't know if that'd make for a sound title for a politcal thesis. Bertie is delighted not to be in power..I'm not saying they're aiming to go into oppostion and stay there..just to regroup and then throw the scallywags out who've inherited the global and national craziness but couldn't improve it much or fast enough.

And nominating a PR-weak McCain w a dodgy-as-fuck Palin with Bush being unreelectable in a dogs dinner of an economy is hardly the best example of 'trying to win'...s'just possible, no?

Bertie isn't a political party last time I checked.

No it's not possible.
They're out because people are sick of their shit.
Sometimes things just are how they seem.

The people, (celebrating Obama’s win) remind me of the days Hitler was in charge in Germany…. They all flocked to him, thinking he was a “GOD”, then were shown the truth of his wrath, when they had to walk through the death camps themselves, and smell the death he created! YOU FOLLOWERS ARE GOING TO REGRET THIS!

are you high? have you been high for the last 8 months?

they ran an insane campaign, they tried to drag obama through every gutter, while Palin didn't turn out to be good for them, at the time it she was announced it dropped a huge bomb over the Democratic convention... they consistently ran a very forceful, neigh desperate campaign right up until the wire.

One could wonder if McCain was just plain old knackered by the end of it and wondering would the job of president kill him altogether, but GOP wanted in. No doubt about that!

Also if things go well for Obama and the newly motivated voters think he's doing a good job AND people who would've been nervy about him and the democrats and who voted McCain realise over the next four years that he's not a communist.. coupled with the hindsight that will reflect very very badly on the GOP/Bush/NeoCon experiment... it could be really, really, really hard for the GOP to get back in again for at least the next 8 years, if not more...

That's if Obama does a good job, of course...

Ole Conspiracy-Theory-Milker wonders if there is ever a set of circumstance under which a party in power would rather go into opposition...say when they've screwed the economy for all they could get and theres nothing but pain and grief and 'real' decision making to be had....i mean, maybe they wanted to lose...they picked her, right? they're not stupid..just sit back and hurl abuse at the Dems as they look like the bad guys trying to put several Humptys together again.

That's how Jim Hacker got the PM job, if memory serves...

is there a democratic equivalent of republican conservative whack jobs? like real left wing communists or something?

Where?
In America?

To be considered a left wing nut in America you need only be in favour of things like national health coverage ("socialised medicine") or gun control.

It was great last night on RTE one where John Bowman was interviewing Sarah Palin's uncle, when it was all so obvious they were gonna lose.

"But, yuh see, if prayers were votes, we'd be stormin' deez election jawhn...!

*smirk*
*condescending smile*
*little grimace and wink of the head*

"Yes...but you see, prayers aren't votes....."
