yeah but the virgin birth etc does lend itself to rich metaphorical interpretation... as a symbolic/allegorical notion the christian bible is pretty sophisticated. two thousand years worth of continued popularity and vast amounts of religious epistomology, schism, war, etc kind of attests to that.

looking forwards, i can't quite picture the doctrines of scientology having a similar resonance.

There was an article on Scientology in the observer a few weeks ago which was really good. Hubbard allegedly told a friend "I'm going to create a religion, thats where the real money's at."

Also, Cruise was interviewed in last sundays observer and one of the 'technologies' he said that really helped him was "learning to use a dictionary".

Apparently he is the second highest level of scientology and can move stuff with his mind!

Theres a video on youtube where 'Elron' Hubbard is interviewed and gets visibly excited when he reveals how much money hes raised through scientology.

"13 million dollars. Now thats a fantastic amount of money."

in the early 60's it was some scratch alright.
