I think it's time for a broadband thread again...

Eirocom cut me off and I'm not paying their reconnection fee. I need broadband back soon so which are a good crowd to go for? Which are the cheapest? I don't care about how fast they are or how much you can download - eircom was grand (apart from the whole cutting me off thing) and according to the ads the other lads are better  Don't if they actually are but anyway - WHAT BROADBAND?

if you have access to ntl broadband go for it! really fast and no cap.

with most other companies you still need to pay your eircom line rental. even with smart telecom you need an active eircom account when you transfer over first (because eircom need to change the line for them).

most wireless services are a joke. grand for browsing, but nay for downloading.

I'll have to check that out, thanks lads!

That's sucks about needing an eircom line for most companies though! :(

I've to get broadband in for the folks. It's rural cork so probably no wireless. I've already used the esat on their gaff when i was living there, anyone else any good? Just for the mother to browse a bit like.

i use esat which are good but the accounts department is rubbish, ie if you have a problem they are complete idiots in sorting it out. i think you do need an eircom account for them aswell, try chorus for their broadband maybe, never tried it though so i cant give you any recommendations. it might be cheaper especially if you are using their tv service/phone

NTL's accounts dept is shite aswell. We signed up for three months free trial or whatever and they started billing us immediately. Still trying to get it sorted out.

same here. We were told about the three month free trial, then got NTL stuff in mail saying that the connection is set up and to call them if we can't see the channels. We didn't, they said that it "is already disconnected" and they have to set it up again. And on with the billing, now our landlord says about the deal he promised to us "bad luck, you decided to pay for them, go ahead then"

And the lines aren't good enough for NTL broadband, phone line setup is too expensive (130e or something), our building is in a conversation scheme so nono for antennas on the roof...tried Irish Broadbands Ripwave - they claim there is an antenna on the top of the pub across the street but the signal is still pretty much nonexistent, can't even get an IP address so it's not working either. Seems like we're out of possibilities...

go with ntl they just upgraded their lines shit fast plus no cap on the auld downloads!

they dont have a cap but they have a 'fair usage policy' which is 1 gig a day. needless to say my 24/7 dvd image antics led to numerous letters from NTL telling me to calm down.

Aww no! And I suppose I'll need the eircom line for them...

No one's mentioned Irish Broadband. Are they smelly?

Jakko up there mentioned them- I was about to sign up with them( e18.95 a month!) this week, but after reading that, they do seem a bit...smelly

no point paying if youre not going to get a signal

apparently trying to quit a contract with Irish Broadband is nearly impossible. They don't answer your e-mails nor can you get through them with phone. A colleague started trying to quit her contract in december and got the process through just last week. Though the internet connection was cut off already in january, she paid until february and they denied her appeal for refund for that period !zed

We're using Imagine (always on 19.99/month) and it's good.
The upload speed is only 128K which is a bit crap. Download is 1M.
The monthly cap is 12Gig download - no upload limit.
Aside from the upload I've no complaints.

it's available all over dublin for all the poor people

Don't think so. I rang 'em a few months ago and it wasn't available where we live (which is Rialto and there's plenty of poor people around here ... at least that's what I think they are)
