the squeeze on english boys in the premiership has hit ireland worse. there's lots of our lads toiling in the championship who'd have been getting, admitedly low level, premiership experience only a few years back. we're fucked.

there's other countries out there. it's time they took a risk on belgium or denmark or somewhere. english football is killing our game. maybe if we finally got a team into the champions league..

yeah, that's what i was thinking too. more of our lads need to tough it on the continent for a few years, and explore the other options out there. footballers aren't usually the most enlightened bunch though....

fingers crossed some of our naturalised immigrants will be handy in a few years.

living and working in, say, copenhagen has to be better than, uh, hull. right?

It can't be that far away, with spots being reserved for the weaker leagues from the season after next.

u21's were fucking gash last night, by the by.

Thought the scoreline flattered England a bit. Can't believe Milner is still young enough to play u-21.

RE: Ireland I saw him being presented with the FAI young player of the year award on Sunday (AWKWARD) and it seemed to me like he said he'd like to come back.

On a sep note...
" Fab withdraws Joe Cole and Jermaine Jenas for Shaun Wright-Phillips and Peter Crouch -the substitution with the greatest height difference in the history of football."
From Beeb website

I thought we were middling to fairly poor. Lots of effort an all, but saw very little of the ball. Brazilians taught us a lesson in keepball.

Positives - mcgeady is getting more useful with each match; still annoying but skinned his fullback a few times and used the ball well the odd time.
back 5 looked pretty solid
tried hard

negatives - shite central midfield devoid of attacking inspiration.
duff doesn't seem to be a threat anymore. maybe with more games under his belt he'll get back his old spark, but is looking like a workhorse at the minute.
no service for keane and doyle, saw nothing of them really.
looked like men against boys for long stretches of the game. at times ireland didn't see the ball for 5+ min passages.

Over all, we looked average. Most worringly is that we lack that odd bit of class that would get us over the winning post or at least have gotten us a goal before.

What was Hunt saying after the match?

Heard Bill, Giles & Dunphy laughing at how "honest" he is in interviews.
Sounded like he might have actually being giving a useful opinion as opposed to Robbie Keane's usual string of cliche's.

he said he was disappointed he didn't start, but he doesn't expect to get a start if he comes on and plays like he did.

Nah, he was saying that he was don given reasons why he didn't start, but they sounded a bit 'iffy'; and that he looked forward to the new manager.

Only saw the highlights, but it didn't look to shabby. There was an attempt to play some decent football in the couple of attacks we had, and it was refreshing to see the players not being barked at by Stan on the sidelines. Fingers crossed for Trap.

any of the proposed managers sitting in the stands tonight then ? i didnt get a chance to watch any of the highlights or the live match itself

Billy Davies was doing a shift as a steward, but said he had to have his back to the match the whole game so he didn't see much.

isn't this part of the new FAI "strategy". as in the want to concentrate on a more european side of coaching from a younger age?? and possibly move away from some our dependance on the english leagues.

would like to see a Trap and Liam Brady combo. takes some of the arguements against Trap out of it like not speaking the language, as Brady speaks both, and not knowing all our players as Brady has that know how, and is a total legend that is well repected on the world stage, both as a former player and now as an underage coach at Arsenal. Plus would help line Brady up for the job once the Trap has moved on

Yeah, except Brady managed Celtic for a while during the dark days of the 90s and was FUCKING SHIT.
