Phantom Fm Twat Radio (5 Viewers)

so, wait...does that mean Dublin doesn't actually have an Independent Radio station? Like, obviously, the dogs on the street know that Phantom is just another commercial adspace-flogging piece of hackneyed garbage, but surely there's an alternative?

...not meaning to be overtly dramatic about it. I just think the term "Indie" should mean something more than one particular section of Topshop. I mean, Phantom originally worked it's way to the position it now enjoys by representing a portion of Dublin's listenership. Now that it represents nothing more than it's market value, those listeners must be tuning in elsewhere? I switched from FM104 to Phantom in the car last week, and heard not only the same band (K**gs of L**n) but the same song.

Where does actual Independent music get heard in Dublin? Myspace. Foggy Notions. Skinny Wolves. U:mack. Not Fucking Phantom. If you want to hear Independent music in this city, you've got to go out and find it. Just please don't turn on the fucking radio. Unless you want to enter a fantastic competion to win a blah blah blah...

All I remember from the early days of Phantom was them constantly playing Debaser and that Rush song

A dearth of decent music on Ireland's airwaves is essential for the future of fans of decent music being mad as hell and not going to take it anymore.

So in a funny, unintended and slightly ironic kind of a way, Phantom are actually promoting the future of decent music, even if they are prematurely turning into their parents.

She could be a tiny bit "gushy" at times but the kiosk was a fairly decent arts show making it 2 multiplied by infinity light cubed (plus or minus seven) times more interesting then most of the other phantom "shows"!

The Kiosk is on air Saturday mornings -- it's Front Row that's gone...

PHANTOM ANNOUNCE WINTER PROGRAMMING SCHEDULE 9th December 2009
Phantom 105.2, Dublin's indie music station, have announced details of its new winter weekday programme schedule. The new schedule commenced on Monday.

Michelle Doherty's mid-morning weekday show, 'Finest Worksongs', has been extended by an hour. The programme now starts at the new time of 10:30am and runs through to 2.30pm each weekday. Michelle is occasionally joined in studio by local and visiting bands for a quick song and interviews.

Phantom have also launched a brand new drivetime programme with Richie Ryan behind the microphone. 'Phantom Drive' runs from 4.30pm through to 8pm each weekday and the programme contains music along with in with traffic information and comedy inserts for those on the commute home.
Richie said: "I'm excited about the new show. It's gonna be wall to wall quality tunes of the highest magnitude, with plenty of new bits and pieces to try and make your journey from work or college a little more interesting. A bit like getting onto the M50 to find three clear lanes and a giant arrow pointing the way home. Or something like that, anyway."
Richie will continue to present his Saturday show 'Stadium Rock'.

Announcing the new line-up Head of Programming and Production Fiona Scally said: "Our new schedule will further reinforce Phantom 105.2's position as Dublin's premier rock station. We know what our listeners want, so along with the best rock music on the radio, we've now added tons of new elements into the mix, giving people plenty to wrap their ears around. The result is a really fun, relevant, entertaining soundtrack right across the day, every day."

The winter schedule will also see the introduction of a new specialist music show - 'The Phantom Sessions'. The new programme will draw together acoustic performances originally performed live to air by many of the local and international acts that pass through the Phantom studios every week. It will be broadcast at midnight on Thursday and repeated on Sundays.

Phantom 105.2 is available in Dublin on FM, in UPC cabled areas on Channel 935 and online at phantom.ie.

that sounds pretty horrendous.

that Richie Ryan bloke is an awful pain in the hole. I can't stand that sport show he does. Soccer this and soccer that. Awful pain in the hole.

Michelle Doherty has taken over and destroyed all people in her wake, everyone else is being let go or moved or cut back but she's going from strength to strength .|..|

In radio speak "quality" tunes = popular and overplayed.

I think maybe there should be a independent group of musicians that hold benefit concerts to raise money for a real independent music station.

Maybe the pressure would force phantom to at the very least chill out with the non-stop ACDC.

Cause that shit be whack.

Sounds like that 'Phantom Drive' show will be littered with shit like 'just a minute quiz' and text competitions/shout-outs.

Hey it's a job for Richie Ryan, it's all playlisted, you can't help what the bosses tell you to play. He's sound and would play daycent music if he had a choice, it's that Michelle Doherty that annoys me, no sense of humour and sounds like an overexcited retard.

I listen to phantom for approx 30 mins per day.

10 mins in the morning before I go to work
10 mins when I get home from work
10 mins before I go to bed.

otherwise I'll tune in on sunday morning for coming down. Or if I just happen to have the radio on, it'll be phantom.

The morning is fine. I like yer man Richie McCormack. Hes funny. Mostly.

Jack Hyland is ok. I don't mind him as much since I did the phantom quiz. But his show was too long.

And the shows in the evening are generally good. Icon, metal, far side - at least theres a bit of diversity.

Its that 10 minutes when I get home from work that are going to kill me. I managed to get around the stadium rock thing by just not turning on the radio on saturday afternoons. Weekdays though. That'll be tough.

Has he bben talking about soccer on the weekday show as well? I hate soccer

its true almost every variation of MOR white boy indy rock is "represented"!

oh? do you ignore your boss or are ya on the dole?

Eichmann was an utterly innocuous individual. He operated unthinkingly, following orders, efficiently carrying them out, with no consideration of their effects upon those he targeted....Arendt concluded that Eichmann was constitutively incapable of exercising the kind of judgment that would have made his victims' suffering real or apparent for him

Phantom is a business, like spin or 98 or 104 or any of those other commercial stations, it amazes me that people expect more of it.

Businesses are for making money, jobs are just a by-product of that. Anyone is lucky to have a job now.

If you take a job in a radio station you don't argue with the programme controller about what's played I'm sure you done your fair share of shit jobs yourself Krossie or are you a man of Independent means - too noble to work? one of these non-profit organisation preachers? I wish we could eat principles. I'm sure your nothing pay from Radio na Life doesn't pay for your groceries.
