Misogyny (2 Viewers)

And that is why a rape culture exists. Because instead of saying "that's wrong and it shouldn't happen" men get all defensive - they should be outraged. These are their mothers, sisters, girlfriends and wives who are encountering this shit! If it doesn't stop their daughters and nieces and granddaughters will continue to have to deal with it...

thats a really good piece. But the fucking journal. If they're not gonna use their comments section for something useful like weeding out these pricks so we can castrate them, they should disable it altogether.

the journal seems to provide the Irish male misogynist with their primary platform for spouting their shite.

You read it at least, it seems clear that some of those commenting didn't and just jumped to their own conclusions about what she was trying to say. Sad to see even purportedly female responses that are dismissive.

I think it's good that it's out there. You get a real indication of the level of pushback there is out there to changing hearts and minds.

True, but I think the only thing the Journal comments really show is the nature of competition. Most of the time the comments on articles written by women have little to no bearing on the article and could be summarised by *insert attempt to find the cleverest way to tell this female to shut up and get back in the bedroom/kitchen here".

what the hell was she doing in a field at sixteen with some bottom feeder?

I love this attitude. Over the summer I accompanied a female friend to a Garda station to report some dude who was sending her explicit photos and videos over an extended period of time. The Garda dealing with the complaint (also female) had much the same attitude - why did you give him your number? Why the hell shouldn't she give out her number to someone who appeared to be a normal dude?
Anyway, a question; objectification v admiration - at what point does admiration become objectification? Or is it like pornography in that "I can't define it but I know it when I see it"?

I think it's more wanted attention versus harassment

Send someone a nice comment and they say thank you, that's admiration and appreciated on some level

Send 40 comments and they haven't responded, that's unwanted harassment

I'd have thought that objectification is fine if it's reciprocated. Plenty of people like being objectified if you fit their needs/desires/evs, and will engage with you if it works for them. I've never found it's an issue you can force.
If you send a suggestive message, get zero response and you don't feel like a massive spanner with no ability to read people, then the very last thing you do is send another one.

But in the case where it's just a bunch of lads with no female present? So its like "Hey, X is pretty good looking no?" "Oh yeah, definitely, Y not so much". I mean passing judgement on people in such a manner isn't great but I'm sure females do it too.
I ask the question because there's a guy I know who tends to take it a little too far, I'm all for admiring a good looking lady but this... it's uncomfortable if I'm honest, but he never behaves in such a manner when there's a female present, should I still tell him to wind it in a little?

Actually, forget the little, its more than that.

Oh, I thought you meant your harassed friend.
Misunderstood.
