A lot of varnishes will say that, precisely because they don't want the bubbles that stirring will create

The one I was thinking of was PBW emulsion. Had a consistency not far off cottage cheese when I opened it. I stirred it anyway.

@moose do you remember this thing? Stripped it back to natural a few weeks back and clear coated it. I'm gonna refit the bottom drawer and have open shelves in the top three. The fibre lives in that corner so I want the open shelves for that kinda stuff.

anecdotal - i posted a natural edge coffee table in the DIY guitars thread, which i coated in ronseal extra hard poly varnish. shook the tin hard first, and painted it on despite the bubbles in it; they did not affect the finish.

but that sort of coating takes longer to dry than water based, to be fair.

I think with water based finishes of any kind you really only can take one - two passes before you start leaving tracks/bubble or similar.

Turns out the fridge is also dead. It stopped making ice a while back, then everything started to defrost. We had a guy check it today and he says the gas pressure is gone. It's just over two years old and a couple of months out of warranty. So it cost us about a grand a year.

Yikes, I'll have to convey this info to my cap'n, as our freezer (the one I use, we have a couple of fridges and freezers between us) is being a dickhead.

He's willing to buy a new one, but it'd be nice to see if this one can be fixed first. It's basically running at -1degrees right now, so it took us a while to notice something was wrong.

When we moved into this house a friend was moving house too and his new place already had a fridge. He gave us his old one and it's still running 16 years later

Fuck that. Get back on to the shop. The warranty is meaningless in the face of the law, which states that goods must be of merchantable quality. A fridge that just lasts over two years is not of merchantable quality.
