Got £89 return Gatwick to Keflavik last week with Iceland Express.
Seems they have some cheapo flights at the minute.

ya bastard, just booked with them last week and didn't get it nearly that cheap. Not going til October though. Can't wait to finally get there!

right so. advice. I'm going for a week and don't want to spend more than a night or two in Reykjavik. Thinking of renting a car and getting about that way. Sound like a plan? Where should I go? Obviously I'll give it a lot more thought closer to the time and plan out a route but just trying to get a few ideas/must sees first

ent for ten days a few years ago

flew into keflavik on sat morn
pick up rental car, don't forget your licence like we did tho'
went straight to blue lagoon for 2 hours of relaxation
drove to reyk
stayed at hostel next to the big swimming pool
www.hostel.is

the hostel at Reykjavik
Sundlaugavegur 34
Reykjavik
105
Iceland

is right next to the national stadium whcih has a heated swimming pool, hot tubs, saunas, etc and is dead cheap to use. (about 5 euro for the day) so if you're staying in Sundlaugavegur then be sure to try it at least once, we spent about 4 hours there it was so relaxing.

hit the town sat night

-----------

up early sunday
drove WAYYYYY up north to the rafting cabins - http://www.rafting.is/cottages.php
checked in with them then drove to the godafoss waterfall
had dins that night in akureyi, iceland's 2nd biggest town/city

------

Monday
did the white water rafting - great craic so it was, then headed west towards the west fjords

-------

tuesday
went to patricksfjordur and bredivak (europe's most westerly beach, apparently)

-------

wednesday - swung south along the coast road

-------

thursday - did the golden circle (gullfoss/pingvellir/geysir), etc

------

fri-sun - back to reyk for airwaves festival

------
mon - one final visit to blue lagoon before catching a plane home

once you get outside reyk there's practically no-one on the roads so we made real good time going from reyk to the hostelling place

the roads in the west fjords aren't the place and zig-zag in and out of the fjords so allow plenty of time to get from a to b if you're heading that direction

the drive over the mountains is great, you can see the glaciers and what-not in the distance and some great fjord views too

what kind of price did you pay for renting the car jim? might be heading there for a week or so next month. most of the companies are charging 7 to E800 for seven days. sixt car rentals are one of the cheapest apparently. probably only two of us heading so something a lot cheaper'd be sweet

to be honest i can't quite recall, it was october when we rented the car so it was off-season, i recall thinking it seemed good enough value at the time

think it was with Budget that we got it but couldn't be 100% sure on that

found the booking confirmation for the car,

in today'\s currency converter 23,609.00 ISK = 132.0593 EUR

so it works out at about 22 euro per day, though at the time the kronur was stronger so i think it was around 40 euro per day between 2 of us, which was fine.

The Yaris was a grand wee car, only ropey section was one or two roads out in the west fjords but other than that no problems with it at all

DON'T FORGET YOUR LICENCES!!!!!!

we both forgot ours so we had to hang around the airport for 2 hours while we had them faxed over, which was a right pain in the arse

cheers jim,

yeah, time of year must have a big part to play in price.
was quoted 710 from that company for 7 days next month
