This Egyptian Goose is 'avin a propah go at it's own reflection.

The partner is in the background, eyeing up it's own reflection.
They were there for ages, nipping at the glass.

slow start, but spawning season is definitely in full flow. i can see at least 14 frogs in the front pond and 30 or 40 in the back one.

Spring seemingly has sprung.


This horny fecker has been standing proud there for the last half hour or so, proud and immovable, establishing himself over the domain.

Should be good craic for the next couple of months.

I met a badger on the street in Clontarf last night, I think it's the first one I've ever seen that wasn't already mashed into the road. It stared me out so I crossed over the road in case it planned on biting me

You need to find a nearby stick because if it bites you, it won't let go until it hears the snap of your bone. So you snap the twing to fool him.

I was taught this many moons ago, and it has served me well. I haven't actually had to put it into practice yet, though.

I met one a few years ago and we just sorta stared at each other for a bit and both moved on.
These beasts are always a bit scared. if you get your ankle broke an ambulance will come save you, you break that lads ankle and he's got about 6 days to live.

we have a fox with an injured leg trapped in the garden. could be an interesting day.

well, he finally managed to get out on his own (unfortunately). kildare wildlife rescue did not like the look of the wound on his leg, were hoping to get to him.

we don't know whether he was hiding, or he got back into the garden, but we managed to trap him.

this was what was causing him the problem - a gash on his back leg, meant he couldn't put weight on it and couldn't jump out of the garden so he was trapped. the only reason we caught him was that he went down the side passage, which was a dead end because the side gate was closed.

he came right up to the back sitting room door at one point, hence these pics.



we had spotted a cut on one of his front legs too, but didn't realise how bad it was till we zoomed in on this photo later.

i heard of people who didn't say 'tame' a fox, but it used to land in to sit by the fire in the evening regular enough. cool creatures. looks more like a vehicle strike than a fight to my completely non vet eye.

we live on a busy road, so that's definitely a possibility. if it was a vehicle strike though, he's damn lucky the damage seems to be to flesh only.

i decided to move one of the compost bins today. and found a litter of baby mice in it. unfortunately inadvertently destroying a mouse nest does not end well.

Ferret showed up at my window sill at work this week. I'd say the tail was as big as the rest of him.
