I try and do fuck all. Just pick the right sounds in the right place

Am nearing the point where I feel good about sending some stuff off for mastering, probably zeroing in on a few thing no one will care about at this stage

But ...

Last night I put an eq on my master bus, 12db per octave slope and band passed everything between 200hz and 4k, and pretty much only worked on the midrange on a couple of songs, the zone I hadn't filtered out. The point was to sort of mimic what working with ns-10s or auratones is like. Did great things for helping me find issues wrt to separation.

Going to take them both for a walk later and see where I am with them, my feeling after a quick listen full frequency before finishing up last night is that I'll have to do a wee bit of shelving below 100 and above 10k for balance but what I did last night is going to be a huge help with translation.

Just a hopefully useful tip for people working on their own stuff.

Getting a good balance is what it's all about.

Meanwhile,I've transcended beyond hi fi back to Lo fi!

Ok so I am putting together a rack for a home recording set up.

I am looking for two pieces of rack equipment;

One is a phantom powered 8 in / 8 out unit that has phantom power switchable per channnel

AND

a unit that is a 1/4" version of this:

(Takes 8 quarter inch inputs and send each input and splits them to two separate outputs (one to PA and one to recording interface)

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Even better terminology so I can find something

Thanks

Ern

Apparently ' half normal' sends your input to two outputs in most patchbays.
Ok I think that will sort that.

Now,

A phantom power supply 19" rack with 8 ins/outs, surely that kind of thing exists?!
Ask a really dumb question - for a home recording setup why do you need both?

Straight up 8 channels interface straight into daw would be fine unless you’re planning to record a band live I would have thought?

(Bear in mind I’ve a very idiosyncratic/unschooled approach to recording..)

Like I'm not sure of the goal here but those two devices in combination sorta can be achieved with one of these, kinda

if you are willing to do up 8 cables yourself.

I always draw up signal flow diagram before i do anything
