But to be fair, I saw horrible footage of a guy getting battered by a gang all the while screaming "I'm not Jewish"

Grim times

RTE report on this was at least as bad.
I am going to complain.

No questioning of the rights of Dutch Palestine supporters being curtailed.
RTE repeated Israeli propaganda, interviewed Maccabi fans but gave no speaking time to Palestine protesters.
Mentioned antisemitism accusations from Von der Leyen and Amsterdam mayor but said nothing about the Maccabi fans behaviour. They were chanting about Palestine in Amsterdam city centre before match. Only made a mention of a Palestine flag being ripped down as an isolated incident.

No mentions of double standards with Israel / Russia.
Just kick Israel out of international sport. Now.

Because they're

Since I posted last. BBC Newsnight did a 'fact check' of video evidence. They found chanting by Maccabi fans on Palestine so bad that they had to mute it and an Israeli throwing a drink at a Palestine supporter, Maccabi fans tearing down Palestine flags. All before the match.
The little footage of the violence was inconclusive as to what was happening and how it began.
One young Dutch guy was stopping people and asking to see their passports before he would them go.
The chanting by Maccabi fans is enough to nail them on.
Also these guys are possibly the least racist of the big Israeli clubs?

The National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security (NCTV) specifically addressed the threat surrounding the Ajax-Maccabi match, because it coincided with the commemoration of Kristallnacht in the capital.

ah. took 4 articles reading to get that piece of very important contextualisation

Dunno about Amsterdam, but it's my understanding that generally policing policy in these matters is "let them have their fun, but contain them". Because really there's a big chunk of football fans, especially ones going away, where they want to go somewhere where they can act like a big gang of cunts and then go back to the 9-5 afterwards. The police understand that, and with that policy usually violence is minimal. It's the least worst way of dealing with it.

It didn't work this time. Geopolitics and genocide don't usually feature in the average game.

What was the score anyway?

Er...Ajax 5-0. Ajax are a club with Jewish origins and in the 90's the Israeli Star of David flag was often seen behind the goal at their matches.
Maybe they thought Amsterdam was low risk as a result? Otherwise amazing the Maccabi fans did not take 'a go in get the fuck out' approach.
They just should not having been watching their team in an international match in the middle of a genocide.

Complained to RTE this morning.
Make sure you specify the particular (RTE News) programmes you have an issue with.

Maccabi Tel Aviv 'fans' took a planned go in and fuck everything up approach. This went on for a couple of days.

I also was sent bulletin points of what happened and how Israel used it for propaganda written by Dr. Ibrahim Hamami which is truly shocking account of Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters hell bent on causing as much problems in Amsterdam as they could get away with. Sorry I don't know how to forward what Hamami wrote.

I am now ashamed that even after all this time I am still underestimating the amount lies Israeli propagandists tell and still don't understand how bad things are.

On my way to Palestine national march now. I am sure all this will get mentioned by speakers.

This is full on dystopian. There's more to it than just the opening post.
