Gigs of your life (1 Viewer)

Happy I got to see
All the band's I like or liked before they got much bigger and sometimes also shit and or in tiny venues.Carcass in giros practice room.
Therapy? Green Day,Jawbreaker,QOTSA, Metallica (with Cliff),Lemonheads,Nirvana,Shudder To Think, and loads more
And bands like Ripcord, HDQ, Instigators, hundreds more ,some mentioned by others already

Sorry to have missed.
Honestly can't think of any. If they played here and I missed them I had good reason. Can't give out about that.

Missed from best gig (duh!!)
Cheap Trick in Vicar Street

Most surprising.
Corner shop in Belfast. I'm blanking on the venue name, but tiny place, maybe 20 people at it. All they had out was a 7" or two on wiija. Crazy wall of noise. Super noce bunch too
I'm guessing this is the same tour that they played Fibber Magees.
I was thinking of putting it as my nomination for worst gig. It was memorably awful but at the time most charming. Everything went wrong for them but they were so likeable the vibes were good.

Early 1993. Never saw them. Early Cornershop was good alright.

i saw cornershop when they were touring for the "when i was born for the 7th time" album. they were incredibly good

Feb 28th 1993

I remember the guitarist's hair clip at the Fibbers gig. I judged him for it.

I’d forgotten about jam jar jail SO THANKS FOR THAT.

Recorded this off the radio in 1992(?). Never heard of JJJ until then. Elevator (Whore) @10:55 is an awesome track.
A lot of really awful bands did sessions for Fanning in the early 90's. These lads stood out a million miles from anything else Dave played.

FIRST GIG:
Pet Shop Boys B'ham NEC seated . Support was an orchestra. Crowd got bored and started mexican wave in a square venue.

LAST GIG:
Jesus Lizard in TBMC - didnt know a single song but went on the basis it would be good, and it was.

BEST GIG:
White Stripes - 2 nights in Blackpool 04, RATM at Reading 96.

WORST GIG:
Maybe Linkin Park at RDS, Was only there for Qotsa so went to pub and watched football.

LOUDEST GIG:
Atari Teenage Riot in TBMC.

SEEN THE MOST:
Has to be Manics. Even saw JDB play a solo gig on abandoned car ferry in Glasgow.

MOST SURPRISING:
Martin Grech in Whelan's,

Maybe Arctic Monkeys at Glasto Pyramid.

HAPPY I GOT TO SEE:
Battles as 4 piece, YYY's, Ultrasound, Wannadies, DFA1979, Run DMC, Jazzfest in NOLA, Arctic Monkeys in Whelans. Muse and PJ Harvey playing first two support slots in Nimes Arena, Jack White in small venue in Brighton. Reading 96(fri). U2 in 90's. Warlords of Pez at Glasto. giveamanakick, berkeley.

SORRY TO HAVE MISSED:
Nirvana, Oasis when they were first in UK, had chances. White Stripes at Oxegen.

FIRST GIG:
Waterboys. Top hat. NYE 88

LAST GIG:
Sting in Belfast. Went along as a favour for a friend. He's a decent bass player to be fair to him. Fight broke out in front of me among a group of women

OK..I'm ready I think

First gig ..Bryan Adams national stadium. Run To you. Say no more

Last Gig ....The Damned in the Melkweg. MINDBLOWING

Best Gig...this is a tough one but its gotta be AC/DC in Madison Square Garden ...2nd place....John Spencer Blues Explosion in Coney Island ..That was some fucking band

Worst gig ..also tricky..but I'm gonna say John Mayall in the olympia . He was wearing a bright pink muscle top and played a Steinberger and his son was on drums . I was not impressed

Loudest gig.. Easy.. Motorhead in Leipzig 2002 . It was comically loud but the cheap beer and drugs made it work. Still felt great

Seen the most ..The Fall hands down. Think I saw them 6 times

Most surprising..... Glen Campbell in the Killarney NEC. he was riddled with Alzheimers..but it went away when he played the guitar. And y'know...Glen on guitar..is pretty fucking special

Most disappointing .... Conflict .. holidays in the sun Amsterdam ..The singer came out dressed in a fucking suit and slicked back hair and it went downhill from there

Happy I got to see ? This is a long list.
McCoy Tyner..in fact it was the classic Coltrane quartet without him obviously. One of my most treasured memories
Larry Corryell.
John McLaughlin .. in various guises. Acoustic indian music and electric jazz .both in central park
Stereolab
Herbie Hancock playing Maiden Voyage
Astrid Gilberto ( not the first appearance in this thread!)
Steve Hillage
Gong
Julian Lage trio
Brad Mehldau
Jimmy fucking Smith
Steel Pulse
Devo
Lee Perry
The Buzzcocks
The Nihilistics
2 Man Advantage and their spin off band Phil A Show with The Goods

FIRST GIG: MC Hammer, 1991 The Point

LAST GIG: Sigur Ros, 2022 3Arena

BEST GIG: The Flaming Lips

WORST GIG: Mercury Rev, Olympia. It was the Deserter's Songs Tour. I seen them twice on that tour 1st time was really good gig (at the start of the tour) and I convinced a couple of friends to with me for the second gig at the end of the tour. They were terrible.

LOUDEST GIG: Jogging, upstairs in Whealans can't remember the year.

SEEN THE MOST: Probably Super Furry Animals

MOST SURPRISING: Paul McCartney, 2009 3Arena

MOST DISAPPOINTING: Pixies in The Point, pre break up you could tell they hated each other. Close second to worst gig

HAPPY I GOT TO SEE: Zombies

SORRY TO HAVE MISSED: Prince 2011, had tickets but was unable to go.
You haven’t gone to a gig in close to three years?

You haven’t gone to a gig in close to three years?
Yeah, I've found it very hard to make time for gigs lately and have mainly gone to comedy the last few years.

Going to try and catch some more gigs this year, I'm bringing my son to his first gig this year he loves Weezer so we are going to that. And will try and catch a few more.

nd place....John Spencer Blues Explosion in Coney Island ..That was some fucking band
i saw that band twice. 1st time supporting the beastie boys in the rds in 1995 and the 2nd in sf in 2010. the first time i couldn't hear them. the second time, the 3 piece with judah bauer and russel simmins, was mind blowingly brilliant. they blew the roof off the place. so good

FIRST GIG:
Oasis - Lansdowne Road 2000. I’m not proud, but there you go.

LAST GIG:
Daniel Romano’s Outfit – Whelans 2024

BEST GIG:
Dunno. Could say White Stripes in Marley Park 2004 because I met my future wife.

Windings in the Stables Mullingar because there was 3 of us and the support act in the crowd. And they played the gig of their lives. Droney stuff between songs melding into each other.

Wilco in Rock City Nottingham because it was £15, my first time seeing them and they opened with Hell is Chrome

WORST GIG:
This wasn’t a bad gig, but a notable experience I suppose. Richmond Fontaine in the Workmans when I was feeling a bit sick. The unrelenting downer lyrics about death and blue collar struggle and the harshness and loneliness of life. Mixed in with my blossoming fever and heavy open E notes on a telecaster. It sent my mind into strange and unusual avenues.

Worst gigs are ones I have played where I have been bad. Or Dara O’Briain. He was shit.

LOUDEST GIG:
Teenage Fanclub – The Limelight Belfast. Early 2000s. Crazy how loud it was.

Crowhammer – Upstairs in Whelans a few years ago. This was the gig that sent my hearing over the edge.

Giveamanakick at Electric Picnic. In a big tent and it was loud.

Buffalo Tom in Whelans last year was punishingly loud.

SEEN THE MOST:
Wilco

MOST SURPRISING:
NOTHING BLOODY SURPRISES ME THESE DAYS.

MOST DISAPPOINTING:
Dunno. Went to Martha Wainwirght in Vicar Street and it was real middle class boring stuff. First time I’d seen her had been great. Never listened to another note.

HAPPY I GOT TO SEE:
All of them, but for big names

Manics finally last year.
Radiohead – Big Tent Gig Kid A Tour 2000
Superchunk – New York 2018
Neil Young and Crazy Horse – RDS 2013
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers – the Point 2012
Bob Dylan – the Point (year?)
AC/DC – the Point 2008
Pavement – Tripod (year?)
The Cure – Malahide Castle 2019
Pulp – St Annes 2023

SORRY TO HAVE MISSED:
Nine Inch Nails – Had a day ticket for oxegen, but it was raining all weekend and sacked it off. Have another go this year at least.
