Gig of the Year - 2008? (2 Viewers)

That was the worst I've seen Deerhunter in fairness, first show with the new lineup. I still thought they were great though.
I was really disappointed with that gig - it was like watching a band nonchalantly go through a rehersal. I like Microcastles a lot but i'll probably give them a miss next year.

Grace Jones - picnic

honourable mentions:

Animal Collective - Whelans
Erykah Badu - Vicar Street
Kraftwerk - that field
Mahoud Ahmed - Pavillion
Prince - Croke park

Oh I know, that Prince Tribute band in Sin (!) the night Prince was meant to play

they were brilliant.

Beach House
The Ex
Built to Spill
Sun Kil Moon
Shellac
Gentle Veincut
Spruce Bringsteen

Pissed off that I missed Silver Jews, Daniel Johnston, Philip Glass

Why? - Andrews Lane (both times) & Primavera

Animal Collective & Atlas Sound - Whelans

Primavera Festival (Deerhunter, Om, Holy Fuck, Fuck Buttons are highlights but there was loads more amazing stuff)

Jape, Dan Deacon, Deerhunter, High Places - Vicar St

So Cow & Big Monster Love - Anseo

Daniel Johnston & Friends - Whelans

Casiotone For The Painfully Alone - Roisin Dubh

The Locust - Whelans (that was this year wasn't it????)

Giveamanakick & Adibisi Shank - Whelans

Your Heart Breaks (supporting Kimya Dawson) - Crawdaddy

Most disappointing gig of the year - Battles etc in Vicar St. First time they've ever disappointed me live. Chrome Hoof made the night worthwhile tho.

Number one gig is The Mae Shi, An Albatross and Monotonix in New York. Most fun I've ever had at a gig.

After that, Primavera - Deerhunter, Fuck Buttons, Devo, Holy Fuck, Health, Les Savy Fav, Portishead, Shipping News... probably more

Dalek - Cypress Avenue
Liars - The Crane Lane
Fuck Buttons - Liquid Lounge
Felix Kubin - Liquid Lounge
Trash Talk - CMJ
Adebisi Shank/Papier Tigre - The Whiskey (as much for the partying after as the gig)
Marvin - The Whiskey
Sincabeza - The Whiskey
Bilgebump - Liquid Lounge

i'm definitely forgetting some.

really regret missing Daniel Johnston.

EDIT - of course the Out On A Limb bash!

Bilgebump - Liquid Lounge

Yeah, Bilge pump in Thomas Reads were aces also. Neil Turpin is just spellbinding to watch. Self-taught drummer GP genius.

His Quack Quack band, engineer extraordinaire Richard Formby has been making some pretty sweet sounds of late too, here - http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=82650103

Also Pivot in the Roisin Dubh - so many awkward indie kids suddenly just breaking out the moves. A mini revolution. Quickly forgotten.

Woops, I forgot my favourite by far, which was Melt Banana in crawdaddy. Glorious.

Ween at the Village - best singalong gig I've ever been to
Tom Waits on the last night
Nils Okland trio in St. Audoens church.
