Gig of the Year - 2008? (2 Viewers)

Prurient at No Fun Sweden

What's the deal with this dude? Am I missing something? Nothing I've seen or heard has particularly impressed me. Just seems like a load of microphone feedback and shouting. Yet everyone seems to hold him in high regard. I'll admit though I haven't heard much, so any recommendations of stuff to check out? Only have the Purient/Kites split and his set on that No Fun dvd. Thanks

It's all about seeing him live. Just something else altogether. His records can be pretty hit & miss but check out Still, Wanting, Cocaine Death and Black Post Society as all are excellent records.

Sun Araw/Pocahaunted
Fleetwood Mac
Joker
Neil Young
Monotonix (I&II)
Hayes/Cahill

Can't think of loads of gigs. My memory is either shot, or they weren't very memorable.

I just remembered I was blown away by Pit er Pat at ATP for some reason, I really really like their guitar playing.

also tuneyards

but yeah, take that, elephant

Koko Von Napoo in Crawdaddy in front of about 8 people. It was a few days after Neil Young in the Point and was all the more thrilling for being such a contrast to that experience.

Neil Young (more Primavera than the O2)
Bruce Springsteen (Sunday)
Grizzly Bear (Vicar Street)
Cass McCombs (Whelans)
Phoenix (Primavera)
Halfset (Crawdaddy)

Can't think of gigs before the summer now... crystal antlers and parts & labor were great gigs for atmosphere.

I'm hoping Modest Mouse and ATP 10 will add a few more names to this list.

polly jean in washington
ac/dc in the point
brakes in crawdaddy
anvil in new york
gamak in several places

still a few more potentials to go this month

Jesus Lizard
NoMeansNo
and
Jonathan Richman

are three,
which,
apart from many great local gigs,

stand out.

but yeah, take that, elephant

watched some of this on DVD tonight and it really beats all. Probably the biggest show i'm gonna see in my entire life, I feel honoured to have been there
