Electric Picnic 2013 (1 Viewer)

Set the scene – sun, fields and the soulful tracks of MATTHEW E. WHITE floating through the air. Following the success of 2012’s ‘Big Inner’, the American songwriter/producer/arranger returns to Ireland to share his blend of soul, jazz and gospel.
Hailing from the Basque region in Spain, the unique seven-piece outfit CRYSTAL FIGHTERS return to Electric Picnic following their 2010 performance on the Body and Soul stage. Mashing dance and electronics fused with the traditional Basque music and dance, the band produce a synth-folk sound. The recently released ‘LA Calling’ from their upcoming second album ‘Cave Rave’ gives us a taste of the energetic spontaneity that will reverberate throughout Electric Picnic.

2013 has proven to be the year for Dublin singer-songwriter GAVIN JAMES. With a number one single on the Irish iTunes chart and winner of 2013 Meteor Choice Music Prize Irish Song of the Year Award with single ‘Say Hello’, James returns to Stradbally to woo revellers with his mesmerising talent and delivery.
Mixing conventional folk arrangements with contemporary rock trimmings, Los Angeles quartet DAWES return to Ireland to share their folk-rock cali-roots sound. With new album ‘Stories Don’t End’ just released, the ethereal musical meanderings of the band will have picnickers swooning and swaying in unison.

Using live drums, synthesizers and noise, FACTORY FLOOR return to Ireland and bring their post-industrial, synth-noir sound to Electric Picnic.

LADY LAMB THE BEEKEEPER aka Aly Spaltro will perform for the first time in Ireland. Spaltro first hit the scene with a selection of home-recordings, won Folk Artist of the Year 2010 at the Boston Music Awards and since, has been steadily making waves with the release of her debut album ‘Ripely Pine’. Electric Picnic attendees should make a bee-line for the understated excellence of Spaltro’s bittersweet emotions and honesty wrapped in her folk-esque style.
Following her support for Ellie Goulding at the Olympia, the English songstress Charlotte Aitchison aka CHARLI XCX returns to Ireland with her postmodern pop-synth sound. With the recently released debut album ‘True Romance’, the online (and eventually offline) success of tracks such as ‘You (Ha Ha Ha)’ and having co-written Icona Pop’s stormer ‘I love it’, Electric Picnic revellers are in for an energetic treat.
CAYUCAS, named after a Californian beach, create an immortal summer surfing vibe through simple and repetitive instrumentation, vocals and lyrics. Electric Picnic will be the band’s first Irish performance and with their debut album ‘Bigfoot’ just released, EP revellers will enjoy bopping about to the sun-bleached nostalgia of the tracks.
Labelled the diva of electronic soul, LULU JAMES’ musical flirtations with various music genres such as dubstep, R&B, soul and electro has caused an upbeat stir. With the new single ‘Closer’ storming dance floors, picnickers should expect a loud electrifying soulful performance.
American singer-songwriter Winston Yellen aka NIGHT BEDS will transport revellers to a heavenly place with his musical meanderings of love and life beyond his young years. With debut album ‘Country Sleep’ gaining rave reviews, Yellen’s acoustic genius and charismatic fretwork will leave the audience awestruck.
Manchester’s electronic three-piece NO CEREMONY and their distinctive synth-noir are Stradbally bound for their Picnic debut. Personified by distorted synths, drums and pianos juxtaposed with glitchy melancholic vocals, revellers will be transfixed by the euphoric and emotive performance.
Belfast producer Jack Hamill aka SPACE DIMENSION CONTROLLER returns to Electric Picnic to showcase his new album ‘Welcome to Mikrosector-50’. Hamill’s electronic cosmic-funk meanderings, ideal for a sci-fi narrative, will transport attendees to a parallel Electric Picnic universe through the futuristic electro-funk beats.
American singer-songwriter VALERIE JUNE returns to our shores following her last Irish performance at The Sugar Club. Following rave performances at SXSW and the release of new record ‘Pushin' Against a Stone’ released on Rob da Bank's stellar label Sunday Best, Stradbally will be swooned by the folk, bluegrass vibe and lyrical genius of the self-taught musician.
CHROME SPARKS is the project of 22 year old musician/producer Jeremy Malvin. An amalgamation of classical percussion, synth and dance creates the unique transcending ambience of Chrome Sparks music and style. In 2010, Malvin garnered online attention with the single ‘I’ll Be Wait For Sadness Comes Along’ and with performances at SXSW and the new EP ‘Sparks’ set for release, an atmospheric experience is expected.
BIG BLACK DELTA is the solo project of vocalist/bassist Jonathan Bates of L.A. rock band Mellowdrone fame. With the recent release of ‘Side of the Road’ of the self-titled album, Bates continues to deliver fantastic transcendental tracks, creating visionary dreamlike soundscapes that will transport picnickers to an existential place.

Picnic bill Electrifying!

GIORGIO MORODER (FT. CHRIS COX) | TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB |

THE DUCKWORTH LEWIS METHOD | BILLY BRAGG | KODALINE | JAGWAR MA | CYRIL HAHN |MØ | YOUNG WONDER | BRAIDS | SUMMER CAMP | INDIANS | SAM SMITH

Tick tock, tick tock… the Picnic clock is ticking with 6 days days to go until the early bird tickets disappear forever. As the seconds fall away Electric Picnic have lifted the lid of their basket once more to reveal 13 more top class acts to join Bjork, Fatboy Slim and the rest of this year’s fabulous display of performing talent.

Emerging from musical hibernation and ready to send this year’s Picnicers into disco shock is legendary singer songwriter, producer and all round 80’s musical God, GIORGIO MORODER Straight from his debut DJ set in New York, this will be Moroder’s first time ever to perform in Ireland, this paired with the fact that Moroder will be joined in Stradbally by Grammy nominated American DJ, CHRIS COX is most definitely the icing on Electric Picnic’s birthday cake. Having brought us all our favourite 80’s film soundtracks, synth pop beats and disco floor fillers collaborating with acts such as Debbie Harry, Phil Oakley, Donna Summer, David Bowie and recently partnering on Daft Punk’s album Random Access Memories, we can’t think of a better way to kick off this year’s Picnic.

Hot from the fields of Glastonbury, Northern Ireland’s indie princes TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB will be gracing Electric Picnic with their contagious sound. The three piece have had smash hits with ‘Undercover Martin’ and ‘Something Good Can Work’ and having won the Choice Music Prize in 2010 for their album ‘Tourist History’ have firmly placed themselves into Ireland’s music tapestry.

Ready to take festival revellers on a kaleidoscopic musical adventure are THE DUCKWORTH LEWIS METHOD. Taking their name from an incomprehensible cricket formula, the duo comprising of the Divine Comedy's Neil Hannon and Pugwash's Thomas Walsh is a joyful proposition of cricket, pop and great lyrics. After the release of their second album, ‘Sticky Wickets’ this July, Picnic go-ers should get ready to be bowled over!

Continuing to make a New England, BILLY BRAGG has his sights firmly set on Stradbally. The British singer song writer will be bringing his unique blend of folk, punk and protest fuelled music to the stage at Electric Picnic.

With their smash hits ‘High Hopes’ and ‘All I want’ plus an Irish number 1 debut album ‘Perfect World’ to boot, it is safe to say Dublin four piece, KODALINE have had a whirlwind initiation into the music industry. Picnic go-ers are in for a treat with their trademark haunting melodies, anthemic lyrics and spine tingling moments.

Sydney duo, JAGWAR MA broke onto the scene with their spectacular debut single ‘The Throw’ followed byJagwar Ma’s debut album'Howlin’’ which was released earlier this year to much critical acclaim. If you are looking for two impenitent Madchester revivalists who are sure to put on a modernized show of a scene they never actually experienced first-hand, but do it with incredible conviction, these guys have exactly what you’re looking for.

Famous for his occasional R&B electronic mixes, Swiss and Vancouver-based DJ, CYRIL HAHN is Electric Picnic bound following a string of European dates and sold out Dublin shows. Stradbally will definitely not be flat lining with this man’s presence onsite.

Tearing up the Danish music scene is singer songwriter who is packing her bags and bound for Stradbally. After her debut single release ‘Pilgrim’, MØbeen tipped as the next Grimes so festival revellers get ready to soak in the soulful electronica and sultry vocals of MØ.

Electronic pop duo YOUNG WONDER is comprised of producer Ian Ring and vocalist Rachel Koeman. Following the release of their debut EP, the album ‘Show Your Teeth’ was released in May this year. Tracks ‘To You’, ‘Time’ and ‘Electrified’ have seen the band acclaimed by Clash, Best Fit, DIY, The Fly, Wonderland Magazine and Pitchfork for the sonic union of Ian Ring's intricate production and Rachel Koeman's powerful vocal. They make music with big beats, euphoric synths and pitched vocals, Picnicers are sure to enjoy the band’s ethereal sounds on the rolling lawns of Stradbally.

Canadian three piece BRAIDS will be taking in their first outing at Electric Picnic this year. And they will have something to celebrate with music fans – the release of their second album ‘Flourish // Perish’ due in late August. Their sound has changed of late, often described as ‘dream pop’ they have ditched the guitars for their second LP and heading down a more electronic route.

Having formed by accident after deciding to cover a song by The Flamingoes, SUMMER CAMP did not initially reveal their identities, claiming to be six Swedish teenagers. However the word is out on this London Duo and they are ready to show Stradbally crowds their 21stcentury alt pop and will be one performance not to be missed.

From Copenhagen, INDIANS is the work of one man, Søren Løkke Juul, who brought his band into being when he felt the need to challenge himself and do something different. Not aiming for anything other than satisfying a creative urge, things have snowballed quickly for him ever since. Stradbally better brace itself for a performance that is sure to break the boundaries of folk, piano balladry and arena rock.

After featuring on Naughty Boy’s ‘La La La’ and fellow Picnic bound Disclosures ‘Latch’, British urban and R’n’B singer SAM SMITH is ready to bring his own sound to EP. Having released his debut single ‘Lay me Down’ earlier this year, the 21 year old is one to watch and will definitely give festival revellers a performance to latch onto!

This completes the Electrifying line-up, for now. In typical Picnic style, there are hidden treasures that have yet to be unveiled. With the clock ticking on your chance to snatch the early bird tickets, will you wait to see what is yet to come?

Happy 10th birthday EP - Ireland’s National Treasure.

I knew nothing of Kodaline until hearing them a few times on the John Creedon show and on Phantom (the missus does have it on of a Saturday afternoon). I think they're quite good. Why does everyone hate them? (I know it's boringly predicatable and safe etc, but, hey, so are the Shins and bands like that, but they have good songs)

They do the job alright, they are to Coldplay what JJ72 were to Nirvana. You might be into that but I think Coldplay is a bad enough starting point already (Shiver and Clocks are still great songs though).

This is almost Whatmans-worthy

http://www.kodaline.com/biography

“Music should have a purpose, you know,” says Steve, “Our purpose is honesty”.

You might be into that

I ain't into anything bar what sounds decent enough not to hurl abuse at it unfairly. First Coldplay stuff is grand music, I wouldn't mind if I went home with Suin Nic Gearailt and she stuck it on, like.
Kodaline have some good tunes up their collective sleeve, don't dress like cunts, or act like cunts (dodgy quotes aside) and they're popular, so more power to them.

(God, I'm getting old. What has parenthood done to me???)

More power to them?? Jesus Christ shut up. Kodaline are shite and they have no good tunes. They are offensively bland.

If we're gonna be nice about a new Irish band on a major label then Little Green Cars have a few good tunes, I wish them success. More power to them. All of Kodalines power should be given to them.

And yeah, Coldplay are grand.

3 things about her;

1: I don't think my inferiority complex would allow me within 100 yards of her for fear it would finish me off.

2: shes married

3: :(

I snogged RTE weather dynamo Siobhan Ryan a couple of years ago after conquering point number 1. And I'm ugly as sin. Number 2 could be a stickler, mind (though not necessarily if my experiences are anything to go by.....).

I could explain why I dislike LGC but I can't do it here. Falls into the "I know them and they're not sound" category.

oh no! Well i'm happy to hate on them if you like.

It's really weird to argue about bands I don't really care about. I'm changing what I said above to I wish them all a middling amount of the same level of success.

Rubbish kisser. That's, literally, my kiss and tell. Most likely the only one I'll ever have in my life. (Unless Thumped girls count.....hehe )

oi, you leave her alone you or gerry murphy will bait the lugs off ya

theres no such thing as a bad kisser, just a bad weather presenter, and she ain't that
