Electric Picnic 2013 (1 Viewer)

If we're gonna be nice about a new Irish band on a major label then Little Green Cars have a few good tunes, I wish them success. More power to them. All of Kodalines power should be given to them.

In every single picture/video I've seen of Little Green Cars, they all seem to share the same collective constipation look. I'm not sure if it's on purpose.

This year’s comedy stage at Electric Picnic is one of the most exciting in the 10 year history of the event. Pride of place goes to global superstar and loveable curmudgeon, DYLAN MORAN. The Navan native was recently voted the 14th greatest stand-up comedian of all time in a Channel 4 poll and it’s easy to see why. Star and writer of the cult TV series 'Black Books'(CH4), Moran’s acting credits also include starring roles in the hit movies 'Shaun Of The Dead', 'Notting Hill' and 'Run Fat Boy Run'. With 5 number 1 selling DVDs to his credit, Dylan is quite simply an unmissable Festival treat.

Picnic stalwart DAVID O’DOHERTY returns to the scene of his finest ever hour and promises to try and fix everything in his own lo-fi inimitable style. A sometimes presenter of 'Never Mind The Buzzcocks (BBC 2) and a regular on 'QI' and 'Have I Got News For You' (BBC2), David’s loyal band of followers are sure to raise the roof off of the comedy tent, but in a very gentle fashion.

Unassuming, provocative, raw, fresh but above all hilariously funny, Albany, Georgia born REGINALD D HUNTER also makes a very welcome return. His style is honest, his material is controversial yet his delivery is as smooth as fine silk, in short Reg's performances never fail to engage and enthrall.

Renowned for his cutting edge comedy and intelligent social comedy, loveable scamp ANDREW MAXWELL will show why he has been voted the 'Best Live Stand Up' for the past 3 years in the UK. With sold-out shows around the world, Andrew's TV appearances include,'8 Out Of 10 Cats' and 'Mock The Week'.

Best known for his work on the 'Republic Of Telly'(RTE2), BERNARD O’SHEA is a fizzing, iridescent ball of sheer energy. A fast talking, fast thinking comedian that invigorates any stage with his presence alone and the added bonus for Bernard is that his Mammy lives just 6 miles from Stradbally Estate.

Familiar to Irish TV audiences as the gormless Fergus from the 'Spar' ad campaign, FRED COOKE delivers a style of comedy that simply cannot be imitated and his high octane brand of surreal genius promises to be a festival highlight.

The sauve and sophisticated, DERMOT WHELAN is as close as you can get to a Festival Banker and his devotional band of listeners of his 'Dermot and Dave show' on 98FM will not be disappointed.

Lovers of the high risk, high stakes improvisational comedy are in for a treat when the best in the business the DUBLIN COMEDY IMPROV fly by the seat of their pants with hilarious results in an unmissable mid afternoon session on the Saturday.

The 12th best German comedian currently living in Ireland, GUNTHER GRUN will delight as he holds a mirror up to us Irish and our feckless ways.

The term 'legend' is bandied about a lot in the comedy world but in the case of laconic Tyrone man, KEVIN MCALEER it is entirely apt as his left field, skewered vision of life's foibles has delighted both audiences and critics alike the world over.

As ever the Picnic gives new talent its chance to shine and this year 3 of the hottest new acts, NIAMH MARRON, MICKEY BARTLETT and AL PORTER get to play the biggest gig of their lives. (remember where you saw them first).

If one were to make a list of the best Irish comics on the circuit then any of the following would be top of the list. PATRICK MCDONNELL, KARL SPAIN, KEVIN GILDEA, JOHN COLLEARY, PAUL TYLAK, COLM O’REGAN, JOE ROONEY, IAN COPPINGER, JARTLATH REGAN, FOIL ARMS AND HOG, ELANOR TIERNAN, ERIC LALOR, DAMIAN CLARK, CHRIS KENT, WILLA WHITE, KEITH FARNAN and many more are the calibre of act that would grace any Festival anywhere in the world but fortunately for Picnicers they will all be at this year’s event.

The human dynamo that is ANDREW STANLEY will be the MC for both the Saturday 31st August and Sunday 1st September and he promises the witty badinage flowing, and the energy levels high for what promises to be the biggest and best ever giggle-fest at EP.

I still can't decide whether this is a good lineup or not. It still feels to me like theres less bands than other years (but maybe thats not the case), and I'm waiting for more announcements. In reality thats probably not gonna happen.

I think I'm still just disappointed cos I expected Belle and Sebastian to play and they're not :(

BACK once again, with our trademark twisting wonderland of bespoke stages, handpicked installations, quirky corners and hidden alcoves, BODY&SOUL is set to light up its place as the central creative beacon of Electric Picnic for the tenth year in a row.

The music.
A roll call of fresh and established offerings rich in diversity, originality, rhythm and melody. Again we search through the musical and geographical maps to bring both the best Irish and international artists who've rocked our boat this year and who hopefully will provide fantastical musical moments for our loyal, well informed, fun loving Picnic going audience to savour.

Highlights include, from the Southern hemisphere, South Africa's Skip&Die's live fusion of Soweto, Jo'burg, Capetown rhythms fused with electronic beats and imagination which has lit up European festival audiences in the last 12 months and will no doubt do so again here in our amphitheatre main stage. Staying in the Southern Continents bracket - from Australia via London hails the svelte pop sounds of Josef Salvat, a singer par excellence who will add some sophistication and musical sheen to proceedings

Body&Soul's electronic music's international offerings this year include a special show from WIFE, the alter[electronic] ego of Altar of Plagues' James Kelly and we welcome Tourist, Will Phillips’ musical moniker for a show that plays as well equally on the dance floor as it does in more intimate surrounds.

Over on the EarthShip stage, hailing from Bristol, the UK's most inventive city of beats, the mighty Outboxx whose palette is that of key driven hooks, smokey rimshots, stuff that defines house music. As Bristol is to the UK in pioneering club music advances then surely Cork is its equivalent in Ireland......therefore a long overdue DJ set from the highly regarded John Daly is another must see of our weekend's entertainment.

Acoustically speaking we welcome Devon singer and folk guitarist John Smith whose stock has risen in the past 12 months and whose live shows have had audiences in raptures. Meanwhile we also are proud to invite the accordion virtuoso and rousing trad energy of Máirtin O'Connor and his band to electrify the night skies of Stradbally with a late set/session exclusive to our main stage.

Allied to all this we have a sterling line up of Icelandic, Scandinavian & Nordic talent - Samaris, HK119, Fallulah, Frida Sundemo...the list goes on, plus the best of raw Irish talent both established and budding, from the party professionals of Le Galaxie, the Mother DJs through to the solid axis of Daithí, R.S.A.G., Jennifer Evans and introducing the new kids on the block,Cove, Ghosts, The Dead Heavys, Overhead, The Albatross amongst many more.

Finally to put a cherry on our live music cake we are also thrilled to say that Matthew E White and band will pay a visit to our main stage for a special intimate second show at this year's event. Of course, we love surprises so we'll also have a special guest or two tucked up our sleeves - as has been our stock in trade at previous Electric Picnics.

Dare we say it but we, Body&Soul, think we know you - our audience, at this stage (it has been 10 years folks!). With that in mind it's almost a given that we're here to enjoy and celebrate and take care of each other - with that and good music, most times, it's all we’ve got!

Earthship Artists Include:

John Daly[DJ] - Outboxx live with Naomi Jeremy -Kelly Twins[DJ] - Colm K[DJ] – RudyTrixX - Laoise Nolan - Little Rivers – Lumigraph - Réalta - Shane Linehan[DJ] - Nightflight[DJs] – Donal Dineen – Mother DJs - Adultrock – Unknown - Lisa McLoughlin – Ana Gog – Torann Drummers – Myles Manley – Paddy Hanna - Sabrina Dinan – Budffalo Woman - Tig Linn - The Amazing Few - Strange Passion presents SM Corporation and Choice – Bunoscionn’s Tradside Of The Moon -Richie Kaboogie[live] - Altered Hours - Unscene Music Collective Showcase

New Additions:
New additions to the Body&Soul’s Village this year include a new stage curated by BLOCK T - offering a platform for emerging theatre, performance art and fresh sounds; the Bog Cottage’s Seaweed Baths and Steamy Sauna, the Little Beat Retreat, along with a custom-designed Radioshack, curated by Aidan Kelly - housing some of Ireland’s finest DJs, and live graffiti artists.

The PEACE PAGODA will host our pop up performance programme by day and transform into a bean bag filled sanctuary of ambient electronica by night, curated by Donal Dineen.

The Zen Gardens and Earth Spirit are staple realms at Body&Soul: Look out for Boundless Bathing Hot Tubs, Shamanic Healing, Indian Head Massage, Workshops, Warm Chai and Laughter Yoga across the cocooned, ethereal expanse of The Village landscape.

A host of Body&Soul Nooks and Crannies are stitched in to the Body&Soul Village as small programmed venues not to miss - serving up culinary delights along with surprise acts and performances. Foodies can look forward to visiting among these: Natasha’s Living Food Emporium, Tiny Tea Tent, Fusion Cafe, and the effervescent Hurly Burly Crew.

Friday night promises to be something different entirely, with a select number of acts taking the spotlight – all the better to concentrate the good vibes on a couple of key areas. While Body and Soul, an expanded Trailer Park, Jerry Fish's new Electric Sideshow stage, Salty Dog and Mindfield will all be operating as normal, there will otherwise be a very strong emphasis on the main stage.
“We really want it to be a party on Friday night,” Melvin Benn tells Hot Press, "with Fatboy Slim leading the way." Others lined up for the opening salvo include My Bloody Valentine, Miles Kane and Wu Tang Clan.

In addition, Giorgio Moroder will give the night’s sole performance in the Electric Arena, giving everyone an opportunity to party on down, with their best dance moves on display.

Actually like the look of Friday. See MBV, then go totally wild take all the drugs, cop some cheese and spend the rest of the two days casually drinking and taking in bands at your leisure. Usually end up missing a heap of shit on the Friday, hopefully won't be the case this year.

You headin down? Might rope you into joining me on that suggested POA.
