Dublin this weekend (1 Viewer)

That's more like it, Howth would be good. And everyone out there is middle-upper class so no danger of being shat upon. The zoo is out, can't think of a grimmer place to visit. Are you in a bad mood Jane?

Yes. No. I don't know.

I don't want to be here. My re-entry after a time at home is always very difficult. The wave of negativity and passive aggression hits me pretty hard and is increasingly difficult to stomach every time I leave and come back.

I have to be here for a while longer, but I'm 100% sure it's time for me to start planning my escape. I can't live in a place where returning after a holiday (which wasn't really a holiday since I had to have fucking surgery instead) I have a panic attack so bad I think I'm having a heart attack.

I like Dublin too.
It's full of cunts though. There's loads of dickheads in Howth too btw, but you won't have to talk to them.
Cunts everywhere sean. Not just Dublin.

I desperately want to like Dublin, but it's like trying to be friends with a junkie. No matter how many decent qualities he or she has, you're never quite comfortable, and you're still going to end up out of pocket and with a black eye.
The thing is, I very rarely get abuse when passing strangers. Maybe my appearance is beyond ridicule, I don't know.

To get back to the original point of this thread, most of the good things about Dublin are really coping mechanisms for dealing with the otherwise hostile undercurrent that runs through the city. Anyone who does not contribute to that deserves a fucking medal.

I'm serious about the Radio Museum. It is at the top of my list of best things to do, and it's miles ahead from even the #2 which is the Transport Museum, which is also in Howth, by the way.

The print museum is kind of cool, too. It's in the barracks at Beggars Bush on Haddington Road, which is kind of a cool spot in itself.

Nor do I, but I know lots of people who do.
There is cunts everywhere, but they’re better at it everywhere else. Dublins brand of cuntishness is as underachieving as it is insidious. That's what's so fucking annoying about it.

Casino in Marino is good, and cheap. Go there.

bit harsh Jane, in fairness. I apologise for the assholes who made you feel bad, but (cue Ronnie Drew voice) Dublin's great, my Dublin.

Maims - If art's yr thang, there's an exhibition of impressionist paintings on in the National Gallery in Merrion Square. Highly recommended.
:)

It's not 'the assholes who made me feel bad'.

This place is a shitehole. A shitehole with some positive aspects, but still a shitehole. And how long do I have to live here before I'm entitled to a negative opinion about it?

"most of the good things about Dublin are really coping mechanisms for dealing with the otherwise hostile undercurrent that runs through the city"

- I think that's about as reasoned as a Kevin Myers article.
Sorry if you've had a few bad encounters or whatever but I just don't think of Dublin like that. Don't understand it at all.
Are you talking about town? I can perhaps see some sort of point, as all walks of life in the city are packed into a tiny area for their entertainment, shopping, drinking, etc. It can be a bit intimidating in certain places at certain times. But everyday life, just going about your business?

I like art in the "i'm in a city i'm not usually in so I should go to a museum" kind of way. noted.

Jane, if it makes you feel better, I also feel very uneasy in Dublin. What you describe only really happens between the hours of 00.00 and 4 am at the weekends in Cork. The rest of the time people are ok, except for sounding like fuckin seals all the time. "Did you see da hurlin yesterday. We were fuckin robbed boy arrr arrr arrr".

I reckon you should move to Galway, almost everyone is sound in Galway.

dublins aite. i'v never had negative experiences with people here, and i lived in cabra for a bit, which i loved by the way. there are assholes in every city, just ignore them.

Yup.

Well, maybe you think it's normal. Maybe it's normal for Dublin. Maybe you've just developed coping mechanisms for it. Maybe you're so used to it you just don't notice it. But it's there and it's not healthy, that's for sure.
