Yes to the first part, but the 2nd part is just juvenile. Data centres (and the connections between them) are the internet. Railing against "parasitic multinationals" doesn't change the fact that the internet exists because people want itextinction rebellion ireland said:we need to significantly decrease our energy usage, and parasitic multinationals should be the first to go
People want the internet, sure, but I'm assuming a small handful of data centres would serve the internet needs of the people of Ireland, as compared to the 100 or so we seem to now have - i.e. we're mainly serving the global corporate needs of these companies.Yes to the first part, but the 2nd part is just juvenile. They're here because it takes less energy to run them here, because of our climate. The world as a whole is worse off if they're somewhere warmer that needs more cooling

That's so weird.
just as an update, my brother was very happy with his present and said the meat is excellent; but i will caveat that by pointing out that as it was a present from me, he's probably going to say that anyway.I await some tasty updates

Clothes banks are overflowing as the ‘market for castoffs collapses’
Charity shops fear they will become dumping ground for poor-quality clothing if new EU law on textile waste is enforced fullywww.irishtimes.com
"In the State, we dispose of 164,000 tonnes of clothing waste a year, making us the second highest producer of textile waste in the EU."
I wonder how much of that is industrial dumping? 164,000 tonnes is about 32 kg per person per year, or about a kilo every eleven days. Just being disposed.
actually wait it's more. i got two hoodies for xmas and 3 pairs of shoes over the past 12 months (2 second hand).I'm around 12kg in the last year.
About 30% second hand.
A bit inflated by getting a suit last year.
Some solid charity shop scores though.
