Cash for Gold Shops, wtf etc? (1 Viewer)

It holds its value.

In the 60's, 3 90%ag dimes would have the purchasing power of approx 1 gallon of petrol.
today, the same 3 dimes would buy about a gallon of petrol.

ye never get rich off silver or gold, its just a hedge against inflation.

was the indent really necessary?

I couldn't get rid of it!

sounds fair enough for me.

These are still horrible shops through, right?

Gold and silver does not have and arbitrary value because of two reasons. There is a finite amount of it, unlike fiat currency, and it takes actual work to find and refine it, unlike fiat currency.
Its real money.
But why do we dig it up and refine it? Apart from it being 'pretty', is it actually used in any device or process where a substitute hasn't already been found?

Fine fine, I know what you're saying but I still don't agree it would be any kind of solution to ensure all currency is made of gold/silver/whatever.

Smiths vinyl isn't that rare - they sold enough of it at the time.

Does anyone buy those gold plated/containing audio cables?

i have a few, no audio difference at all, but as said above, no corrosion in oxygen or water. a soundman i know equates corrosion on cables to a nasty cold. one cheap shitty cable getting wet could take out the whole workforce - sorta.

Imagine trying to insert four smiths vynils into a condom machine in copperface's at 2am. deadly. it would be like a right of passage.

Gold is the easiest of the metals to work. It occurs in a virtually pure and workable state, whereas most other metals tend to be found in ore-bodies that pose some difficulty in smelting. Gold's early uses were no doubt ornamental, and its brilliance and permanence (it neither corrodes nor tarnishes) linked it to deities and royalty in early civilizations

More here! Brief history of gold

  • Gold can be used in food and has the E number 175.[20]
  • Gold leaf, flake or dust is used on and in some gourmet foods, notably sweets and drinks as decorative ingredient.[21] Gold flake was used by the nobility in Medieval Europe as a decoration in food and drinks, in the form of leaf, flakes or dust, either to demonstrate the host's wealth or in the belief that something that valuable and rare must be beneficial for one's health.
  • Danziger Goldwasser (German: Gold water of Danzig) or Goldwasser (English: Goldwater) is a traditional German herbal liqueur[22] produced in what is today Gdańsk, Poland, and Schwabach, Germany, and contains flakes of gold leaf. There are also some expensive (~$1000) cocktails which contain flakes of gold leaf.[23] However, since metallic gold is inert to all body chemistry, it adds no taste nor has it any other nutritional effect and leaves the body unaltered.[24]

I thought the gold flakes in Goldschlager were there to cause little cuts to your innards which would get the alcohol into the blood quicker. Someone told me that once and i believed it
