The Pet Shop Boys - You are always on my mind.

yikes- i think they ruined two songs with this cover!

Johnny Cash though can turn any song into a winner

Chet Atkins' "Mr Sandman" wont leave my head- not sure yet if thats a good thing

Re: best cover version(s) in history

Off the top o' my head

The Fall: 'War'; Stina Nordenstam: 'I came so far for beauty'; This Mortal Coil: 'Another day'; Billy Childish: 'John the revelator'; REM: 'Crazy'; Mark Kozelek: 'Bad boy boogie'; Mick Harvey: loads off those Gainsbourg covers albums

I fought the law by The Clash is my favourite they took the song and made it their own.

Whipping Boys Caroline says 2 is quite beautiful as is Neil Hannons Life on Mars.

The Manics have done more cover versions then your average boat cruise lounge act but their live version of Bright Eyes from the Richies last Astroia gig is beautiful.

I'll have to second Johnny Cash Hurt and Futurehaeds Hounds of love.

The Ramones doing 'Needles and Pins' always gets me right *there* just around the time of the key change... cough...

Fatima Mansions' 'Shiny Happy People' deserves a mention for humour alone... as does The Fall's 'Lost in Music'...

Eh... 'Hurdy Gurdy Man' by Butthole Surfers is nice... eh..

No wait.. I've got it!

The Best Cover Version in History is Killdozer doing 'I am, I said' by Neil Diamond. Play it loud, wear just a dressing gown, sing along and tell me I'm wrong.

Sonic youth - Superstar
Booby Womack - California dreamin
nouvelle vague ......
Roxy music - jealous guy (john lennon)
The sonics - louie louie
some amongst the thousandzzzz
