Attention Internerds (3 Viewers)

There's a server sitting at home in my old place in Rathmines. That's free to use... haven't a clue about the size of the memory and all that.

i should have hellaborated

  • i'm looking for dedicated server hosting
  • i'm looking for linux, not windows
  • i'm looking for something that comes with cPanel or Plesk or similar
  • i'm looking for something with a decent amount of bandwidth, 1gb or so(!)
  • i'm looking for something in the region of 60gb space
  • i'm looking for 512mb ram
  • oh and if possible, it has to be a managed service.
  • and it has to be as cheap as possible
i'm not fussy, me.

things have gotten bad and i really, really have to get this shit moved before something nasty happens

Well... that box is there. Haven't looked at it, but it's free to use. I don't think it has the requirements you're looking for though.

Declan has that thingymejig with Bytemark. He leases out server space and manages it himself (I think). That's €25 a month for 1.5 Gb of space.
Okay... I have a very vague idea of what's being talked about here.

Jaysus, are you starting to run porn sites or something?

What are the stats of this board, average bandwidth per month, sql table size?

this here site does over 20gb traffic a month, so spot the deliberate mistake a few posts up. There's a few other domains here too.

The mySQL database is about 250mb or so, I think. We do about 200,000 page impressions a month; 45,000 'unique' visits.

But to answer your question: At this stage if it makes money, I'll certainly consider it....

I get my hosting from http://www.ez-web-hosting.com

Their dedicated servers ain't cheap though

Cheapest I've seen (though I don't think they're managed - by managed I presume you mean that they do stuff like keep the OS and php/mysql up-to-date for you?) is at http://www.serverpronto.com, but I haven't done any sort of an extensive search
that's exactly what i mean

managed service and cheap? I rent a 80gb linux cpanel out to a client but it costs me $495 a month. theres uncapped bandwidth though, plus cpanel, virus protection and spamassasin - but its damned expensive so Im glad Im not paying for it meself

how much physical storage space do you need? not bandwidth, but actual space? I might be able to grab you some space on said clients linux. I have root access (he doesnt) so i could set up a complete reseller off his without anyone knowing - though it'd depend on exactly how much space you need .. probably swing up to a gig or so but not much more.

PM me if your interested, cus then I could get me own back and not reply for weeks ;)

There's a couple of gigs all told, but i plan on using a whole lot more now that i have a proper net connection to upload stuff with.

But given the content of some stuff that gets posted here it's probably not such a good idea to hijack someone else's space. Not a good idea at all.

Just out of curiosity... how much of your bandwidth goes towards the emails that go out when a thread gets updated?
not much to be honest. i think mp3's and image attachments eat it all up. hi andy.

You do know you can turn that off, right? http://www.thumped.com/bbs/profile.php?do=editoptions, "Default Thread Subscription Mode"

pretty much all the images i post are hosted elsewhere and it's not like anyone downloads my shit anyway
so, hi pete!

well if you cant get what you need cheaper than 495/m let me know and I'll hook you up with my supplier - thats uncapped bandwidth btw - not too common
