Is that the Dead Kennedys? Oddly enough, John Peel was at that gig.

Bands that are misrepresented by their most famous song

Serge Gainsbourg. Not that je t'aime is a bad song mind, but there was so much more to the man- like having Leonard Cohen, David Bowie, Ray Davies and Isaac Hayes all rolled into one.

    The rule of rep

I completely agree. Total bollocks. Although whatever thread I was looking at at the time, everyone seemed to obey that rule. It was like the grand unified theory of thumped. I'll go off right now and de-rep myself.

    The rule of rep

Under a thousand posts: rep total is roughly the same as number of posts. Over a thousand posts: rep total is roughly half the number of posts. There's a few exceptions, but generally this holds true.

    Scorsese

Just saw New York, New York there, and its a much underestimated movie, with a fine De Niro performance. You need to have a tolerance for golden age musicals and Liza Minelli though, which narrows the target audience somewhat.

    Another what think ye thread....

You know you're on thumped when a thread on casual sex turns into an earnest discussion of albums by gay Scandinavian metallers.

Who is the worst band ever?

The Tragically Hip were one of the blandest, most tedious bands to ever shelter under the lip of indie respectability. Their songs are long gone, but my hatred still burns bright. The "taking themselves seriously" rule is a good one, but can I apply to have it specially rescinded for the...

    Crap songs by talented people

The Original Wrapper by Lou Reed.In its sheer awfulness, stands head and shoulders above the legions of other crap songs by Lou Reed.

    Jape appear in Guardian

Or would have, if the sub-editor had got the name right. They interview a lot of people on what they'll be listening to this summer, and here's Brendan Benson: "This summer I'm listening to Floating by Jabe. It's like this drone, traditional Irish-Celtic music but a dance track. I dunno if...

I bow to the set list. If it was an earlier track of theirs, it did sound the spit of that talking heads song, though.

    Nabokov recommendations

It doesn't get much better than the three you've already read, but... King, Queen, Knave is really good- written around the same time as Laughter in the dark and despair, and full of the same black comedy. I'd recommend that one first of all. Mary, the Enchanter, the Defence and Invitation to...

    Arcade Fire on Jools Holland

To be honest, I was in two minds about him. I didn't realise he was a mate of the band's, and thought it was just a self-consciously hip choice of support- if you liked the kooky chick with a harp, check out the geeky guy with a violin. And he hovered very close to self parody- a floppy haired...

    What's yr favorite film soundtrack?

Funny, I was just thinking this about lame movies. Risky Business was on the telly the other night, and the soundtrack (kinda After Hours style synthy 80s job) was just ten times smarter than anything else in the movie.
