What Book Did You Read Last Night???

Reading as an endurance sport - that was half of the point I was trying to make. What good it it supposed to do you to slog it out with a shit book you are not enjoying? Why is that improving in some way?

What Book Did You Read Last Night???

Isn't it funny that ditching a book is seen as a failure, but not a film, even though a film represents a much smaller investment of time. And you'd never find yourself thinking about a film "perhaps I should slog it it...perhaps it gets better..or perhaps this drudgery is in some way good for...

Another of my Library of America presents to myself for Christmas. I wish I know more about economics, it seems like I should, and I suspect 99% of what I hear every day on the matter is bullshit. Anyway His prose is just lovely. Crisp, and clear as a bell. Nice edition too, there's nothing...

Her book Food Politics is a classic This is a little lighter, but very clear and concise summary of the history, science and politics of the calorie.

I'm also reading this: Which is actually quite readable so far. Though sometimes you'd be a bit confused as to whether the problem was predatory lending or predatory borrowing!

Griftopia: I've been really impressed with his journalism and the book is great. Can't disagree with anyone who titles the chapter on Greenspan as "The Biggest Asshole in The Universe"

Some nice photos included And it has a couple of pages for each photographer - so it's a nice introduction to people who's work you hight like to check out. I found Disgrace very very unsettling. It gives me the creeps just to think about rereading it.

What Book Did You Read Last Night???

Enjoyable I can't say I agree with all of the Vonnegut worship based on this though. There is something bland about it - he spends so long building up to the bombing of Dresden his actual description of it doesn't live up to the books own hype.

Some of it has the air of an overly verbose school kid trying to be clever. (The type of writing where there is always a blurb on the back that says "the writing fizzes off the page"). The straightforward comedy books like Money and Success work best for me. I found London Fields a bit of a...

Junkies are boring....who'd have guessed! (Actually it's not that bad, it's a collection of first person accounts of people in and around the drug trade in northen Mexico, southern US. However at the moment I'm trawling through the accounts of El Paso and Austin based street level...

I know absolutely nothing about Jazz in general and Miles Davis in particular But I am enjoying this He has a very elegant prose style. I'm not sure about this yet. Some of it is the kind of philosobabble that irritates/baffles me But he does have some interesting things to say about digital...

What Book Did You Read Last Night???

I've always wanted to read this, especially as everything the woman seems to stand for drives me into a white hot rage and makes me want to blow things up. Her ideas have been a cancer on American public life. (funny how most Europeans have never even heard of the crazy bitch). I'm terrified...
