That energypal site has a battery sizing thing that’ll tell you the optimal capacity based on your own usage patterns. Make sure you’re not missing out on grant/rebate action that won’t be available if you add another battery later.

from what i understand, the main cost with adding later is VAT - they can install without VAT as part of the panel install, but subsequent installs incur VAT.
plenty of time yet to change the scope of the install (an engineer has to come out to confirm the exact number of panels and optimisers and cable runs) and that can change what we shook hands on today.

i don't think an extra battery is a bad idea - but we only use 10 units a day at the moment, so 2 batteries would actually match our daily usage.

we're not on a smart meter plan - i held off till we decided if we were going with solar - so i don't have a file i can upload to that energypal site.

If there's more than two of you in the house and/or you have an EV and/or you have a heat pump/ elec heat.
And can afford a 10kw battery, go for it.

Yeah it's nuts. We're only half way through the month and we've already exported €87~
At this rate we'll have Novembers bill covered by June.
So even if no government winter levy grants we still Might break even by march

solar panels due to be installed this week, and i'm starting to get worried about seagull shit; one of our neighbours doesn't have a bin service so they throw their leftovers out for the seagulls, so we occasionally get loads of seagulls around. and apparently seagull shit is not goood for solar panels.
it was really after we got the greenhouse that we realised how much seagull shit there is; though i should have copped based on finding it on the car occasionally.

Seagulls are the bane of my existence now, and every day there’s 3-5 new piles of crap on my car. It destroys the paint so I’m now a frequent customer at the carwash.

In general our bills have been higher this year than last year. I put it down to the Induction hob. But then we haven't bought any gas since it went in. It's so difficult to put a figure on these things.

induction hobs are much more efficient than gas, but the issue is the 'fuel' is more expensive. i have a vague memory that the running costs are reasonably similar.
