worst way to die (3 Viewers)

i was reading this thing last night about the early deep sea divers (in those bulky iron helmeted suits) who would talk about the dreaded phenomena known as 'the squeeze'

basically if there was any problem with the air pumps on the surface and pressure was lost in the suit, the vacuum created would suck the diver through the helmet at such speed as to leave nothing but 'a pile of bones and some rags of flesh'.

yes indeed

its a pretty entertaining book, and it also reminds me why i dropped out of science in college. How's that for value for money
 
Bryson also tells a story about some explorers who were rescued after wandering around in the arctic circle. They were given a hot drink to heat them up and the shock to their frozen bodies was so much that they all keeled over.

Read The Hot Zone by Richard Preston (I think). All about Ebola and the like. Now that's a scary book!
