the mother's laptop is warning that the d drive is almost full, there are 6mb of 150gb left. It seems to be windows back up files, theres large back up files, one 70+gb from before christmas and another from january. can I just delete the old one or does windows automatically clear old back ups when it needs to save a new one? Should i just leave it alone? theres plenty space on the c drive. The computer also tells me that the back up drive is on the same physical drive as the c drive - does that mean it's pointless anyway?

sounds like you have a C: and a D: partition on one physical disk. If the disk fails, the backups are gone. Best bet is to backup to an external drive.

Also, Crashplan.

Run CrapCleaner on it all too.
