I'm a computer idiot, but all the cool people use macs. They're more expensive. Should i get one? ACER PCs for €400 - mac for €1100. Basically i need a typewriter with internet.

I don't think a cheap PC is going to be up to any kind of serious job. That's just my experience. Cheap PCs are cheap for a reason.

Spend the same money on a better pc. Basically you want as much power as you can get to future-proof it a bit. An equivalently priced PC would have way more power than a mac. Fuck the cool aspect. Go for power.

personally i'm not fussed at all. whatever tool does the job and what you can afford is fine.

I've had a macbook for 6 months and i'm totally sold on it.

Boots up really fast, no malware/spyware, really nice to use. I use it all the time and its never crashed and it runs just as good as the day i bought it.

You can download NeoOffice for free - its got Word - Excel etc... or you can buy Microsoft Office for it.

my trusty i-mac has been going ten years this Rocktober

I still use to record most everyday and it'll still sort most small design jobs

true everything is out of date, and there is no support... but it's never once melteddown on me and I've never lost any files because of the i-mac itself

I know fuck all of electrical appliances, nevermind computers, that would still hold their own day in and day out for 10 years....
