Weren't The Doors (1 Viewer)

Overrated shite.
hahaha, I was wondering what you'd think. Listening today, I reckon the Doors are a bit like the Sex Pistols in that their effect is probably linked to a quite a specific time period and mindset and their continued popularity is based on people who are closest to recreating this (i.e. young teenagers).

I haven't listened to them in years (possibly leaving cert year?) and unlike even The Sex Pistols, I have no urge to go back an reappraise them.

However, I've just been reading back through this thread and was surprised to see so much negativity about them. I really don't like them but thought they would be more popular here.

this is a good oul lp

Morrison makes them an easy target for haters. I hate all that shamen malarky as much as anyone which is probably why I think LA Woman is their most listenable record.

When the Stone movie premiered I was at the opening night screening. Got up on in front of the screen and danced my drunk ass off during the closing credits and was eventually escorted out.
We went to see it a bunch of times. Usually with cans.
My mate got a kick in the face after one screening for ruining it on everyone else.
It was a fair cop, we were assholes.
3 hours in the Mater and we decided to knock it on the head.

Loads of people seem to think that they'd be embarrassing to listen to nowadays because they firgure Morrison's shamany shite would sound way more embarassing than it did when they were 13 but I reckon I'd be ok because I thought it sounded fucking ridiculous back then too.

everyone likes the doors secretly when they are drunk.it's only when you get sober again that you hate them. I've seen hardened punks at weddings dancing to them says it all really.

.

That's like me with Summer of '69. I'm actually able to measure my drunkenness by my reaction to that song.

I remembering telling my first American girlfriend at 21 that I liked the Doors. She was all "All that American Poet shit? Fuck off."

That may have been the beginning of the end.

No, I think the End started with some random guitar noodling. Not sure, haven't heard it in a while. Definitely don't remember Jim Morrison singing that line

Ahh yeah.Talk about being able to relate to a song

Great band. Some of it is of it's time, that's okay. Sometimes that's what I want. Morrison is very underrated as a singer.

Just discovered this while trawling through my photobucket account

My mate in the parka with Jim Morrison backpatch is embarrassed by this now

so naturally I share it at every opportunity
