US Presidential Elections 2008 (2 Viewers)

Palin eyes the next campaign as pairing falls apart

With his electoral prospects fading by the day, Senator John McCain has fallen out with his vice-presidential running mate about the direction of his White House campaign.

McCain has become alarmed about the fury unleashed by Sarah Palin, the moose-hunting "pitbull in lipstick", against Senator Barack Obama. Cries of "terrorist" and "kill him" have accompanied the tirades by the governor of Alaska against the Democratic nominee at Republican rallies.

Mark Salter, McCain's long-serving chief of staff, is understood to have told campaign insiders that he would prefer his boss to suffer an "honourable defeat" rather than conduct a campaign that would be out of character -- and likely to lose him the election.

Palin (44) has led the character attacks on Obama in the belief that McCain may be throwing away the election and her chance of becoming vice-president. Her supporters think that if the Republican ticket loses on November 4, she should run for president in 2012.

McCain has decided not to be a cunt. That's good

one could be cynical and say that McCain tried being a cunt, via his little Alaskan cunt minion, and it blew up in his face pretty bad, and now he furiously back pedaling and angling for the "Daysunt geeza" option.

You'd have to be fierce cynical though.

The idea that McCain and Palin are running 2 separate campaigns and not coordinating efforts is laughable. He's back-pedalling for sure. Those videos of psychos in line for McCain saying all sorts of crazy things would not appeal to the middle-ground.

I wonder how things are going to pan out if Obama does get in? Seems to be a very divisive campaign already.

Has Nailin' Palin come out on DVD yet? It's got to be in the making. Porn industry gold mine.

Obama is continuing to campaign allmost everywhere - even in pretty red states. He is even still ronning adds here in Oklahoma (which is pretty much the reddest red state).

The objective seems to be twofold, to make McCain spend money where he didnt think he had to and secondly if Obama does win to ensure he does so by as big a popular margin as possible.

I don't really get the whole gun control thing. I mean, why is it such an emotive subject. Like, while I strongly support gay marriage and am pro-choice, I can understand why people think abortion and gay marriage are great evils. With regard to taxes, I can see why people would be opposed to tax increases even though I usually think high taxes are a good idea.

Can someone explain the gun thing to me?

But why?

I could imagine if you had a gun and liked it, giving it up would be a bit annoying. But why is it being taken seriously by so many people
it's either

a. so they retain the ability to form a militia and resist an oppressive government

or

b. so they can go hunting with H&K MP5s

Boom boom. Seriously though, what the fuck?

A brief summary wont do it justice but the roots of hysterical opposition to gun control are contained in all of the following - the constitution and it's enshrinement as the greatest document on earth, in the agressive expansion of the US frontier and the subsequent historical revisionism of that period, symbolic within the almost caricature partisan politics of the US and also the perception of gun control by many as 'big government encroachment'. It also doesnt help that the poorly regulated proliferation of firearms means that a lot of folk dont feel safe without a gun. Gun control is also seen as one of the central tenets of a new wishy washy liberalism which refers back to partisan politics. So it's part sentimental, part symbolic, part selfish, part reactionary and with a barely visible smattering of practicality.

That's just off the top of my head as I eat my delicious dinner
